Bring it. I would love to see the Avengers fight the HYDRA army, if possible. Not totally agreeing with Evans as Cap, but I've been convinced through the trailers. Epic.

I'm rooting for this movie, looks like its gonna be awesome. But I can't see this movie doing too well financially. Too many factors going against it... I REALLY hope I'm wrong, though...

1: Oversaturation of the CBM market. Its the 4th cmb of the summer, even worse its the 4th origin story too. To the general public, it might be "just another comic book movie". With so many cbm's out, people might just start waiting for it to come out on video.

2: Its coming out right after Transformers and Harry Potter. More than stiff competition and are definitely the must see movies of the summer. Are people other than fans of the genre gonna shell out for 3 movies in a month...?

3: they can call it 'the princess bride part deux' if they want but everyone knows its the captain america movie. That might not be to popular in some international markets Right now.

Like I said, I hope im wrong. But, so far, cbms have been doing worse and worse as they are released this summer. Green lantern did worse than X-men which did worse than Thor...

I think it's time I make my return since my name is appropriate for the huge intervals between posting on here lol. I have to say that I believe cap will turn out pretty great from most of what I've read on here.

The way caps story is told in the comics is "cap"tivating lol and I expect the adaption to the screen to be no different. With the blend of Raiders of the lost type memorable action scenes I've read about this movie just should beat out iron man 1 for top marvel character movie of all time imo. I don't even think any director could fox this up lol. Well maybe, there is michael bay.... but luckily he's not on this :).

MoonDoggyX and SamHell, you can also factor in the bad taste of Green Lantern. If a casual movie-goer found Green Lantern to bad after all the fireworks in the previews, they may be way less interested in taking a risk on another CBM with weaker trailers. Take this into account with the other things you mentioned.

But the nail in the coffin is Harry Potter. I can't see the Harry Potter finale falling to second place after being out for just one week.

They need to be shameless with Cap ads and make it obvious that it's connected to Iron Man and THOR. Whore out Nick Fury in the TV spots. They need a special Cap trailer that explains the team coming together; HULK, Iron Man and THOR. But more to the point than the one they did for THOR.

@Ramonsuarez - Harry Potter is an event every time it is released and rules its genre with an iron fist! Lol. Its internation numbers are rediculous. It killed every potential contender. Narnia, percy jackson, golden compass... I can't think of any movie being release close to the same time that made a ton of money besides transformers.

@neobaggins - all very good points. Cap needs to be advertised to the point that its overhyped. It needs to be sold as an event. Something people HAVE to see to even stand a chance.

i'm gonna be there at midnight.
i have been looking forward to this for five years.
and THAT movie has some of the best marketing.
why?
it has no marketing.
it has two epic trailers and about five tv spots.
everything else is spread by word of mouth.

but you are making it sound like Harry Potter was the only fantasy contender that had a huge success.
i guess you forgot about Lord of the Rings. two of their films were released the same year as the first two Harry's. granted they were released months apart but they both made a ton.

and if Harry Potter were to have been delayed until next year, it would have some serious competition from The Hobbit.

@wadey09 - the genre I was talking about is "children's fantasy" or adapted from children's books. No doubt LotR held its own or even Pirates for that matter, but those movies aren't geared towards children. But it'd be hard for a movie of any genre to compete being released 2 weeks after hp, especially it being the finale...

With all due respect, the majority of the GA never thought that GL looked good from the trailers.

To the average moviegoer that shit always looked like shit...little green rings flying through space...masses of cgi aliens looking like a bad episode of the Muppet Show.. . RR big head on a skin tight cgi body, etc., etc.

Dude, you are so on the money with your assessment of the HP franchise. Every movie after GOF has been garbage and that last one was incredibly boring.

That said this movie will be huge and will probably influence CA:TFA's box-office.
