There have been persistent rumors that Chris Evans might be set to return as Steve Rogers (a trade report even claimed that he'd signed a new deal to reprise the role), but it doesn't sound like the actor is fully on board with picking up the shield again.

While doing the press rounds to promote Lightyear, Evans was asked if there's any truth to the rumor that he has some future MCU appearances lined up. A potential movie focusing on Rogers returning the Infinity Stones (which happened off-screen in Avengers: Endgame) was mentioned, but the actor is clearly hesitant to revisit the character after bringing Steve's story to such a satisfying, poignant close in the Infinity Saga finale.

"That seems to be something people would like to see," Evans said of the Infinity Stones idea. "I don't want to disappoint anybody, but it's tough to... It was such a good run and I'm so happy with it. It's so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to rattle something that is, again, so dear to me. That role means so much to me. So, to revisit it, it would be a tall order."

Rogers was mentioned in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but we haven't actually learned what became of the older version of the hero who returned to bestow the shield on Sam Wilson in Endgame. Of course, the nature of The Multiverse means Evans could still return as a Cap Variant, but is that something anyone would really want to see after he cemented such a strong legacy as the Star-Spangled Avenger?
