COMICS: Avengers and X-Men Unite To Take On the Red Skull In Upcoming AXIS Event

Writer Rick Remender and executive editor Tom Brevoort attended Special Edition: NYC to discuss Marvel's upcoming Avengers/X-Men event, AXIS, talking about the team line-up, the evil nature of the big bad, Red Skull, while comparing it to a "Michael Bay movie."

This October, Rick Remender will launch Avengers & X-Men: AXIS, a nine-part event published over the course of three months that will see a ragtag group of mutants and Earth's Mightiest join forces to take on the Red Skull and his team of villains. Red Skull has attached the brain of Charles Xavier to his own, adding the Professor's telekinetic abilities and the force of Onslaught to wreak havoc and enslave humanity. Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort says that the other antagonists - Doctor Doom, Hobgoblin, Carnage, Sabertooth, Enchantress and Absorbing Man - all seem more sympathetic compared to him; the Red Skull "is pretty much black all the way in, and the deeper you go, the blacker it gets. The Skull is really all about grinding other people under his boot heel.''

After
"reconciling and becoming friends and enjoying high-fives and hugs and cuddles" in his Uncanny Avengers series, the team of Iron Man, Storm, Thor, Medusa, Deadpool and Luke Cage will "have to deal with a threat that is ultimately too big for them to contend with even working together." Tony Stark in particular will play a key role, but Brevoort promises that we'll see new sides of both heroes and villains alike explored in the storyline and "lasting and natural and additive'' changes. He essentially describes AXIS as "kind of a Michael Bay movie. It's big and spectacular and has a ton of full-out bombast." Below is some new artwork featuring the Red Skull, and an official promo by artist Jim Cheung.

It's like a Michael Bay movie..?
Soooo, just a lot of explosions & messy action without much of a coherent story..pure dogshit.

Dr.Doom may have some kind of personality or quality that others could identify with unlike Red Skull who is just a real evil bastard..that said,it makes Doom more interesting. He's isn't being utilized correctly in comics.

Dr. Doom should be the penultimate villain of the Marvel U,not Skull or Magneto, not Loki or Green Goblin.
He has all the cool abilities to be the top bad guy of all.
He has the tech/science/intellect,he has the ability to deal in dark magics & is the ruler of his own country!

Notice how the image on the top shows the Green Goblin, but the picture on the bottom shows him recolored as the Hobgoblin.

I didn't notice that at first, so I did a bit of research. Marvel claim the use of Green Goblin on the original teaser art to be a "mistake" and that they always planned to use Hobgoblin. I don't know about you, but the Goblin illustrated looks a LOT more like Green than Hob. Must've changed their mind.

Why have only one x-man? You would think they would have Spidy or someone from FF.

How did Red Skull exactly revive after the events of Captain America: Reborn? I want that explained.

Why is Storm in front of thor? Thats just ridiculous, his character is more interesting powerful and popular unless I'm mistaken?

I think the reason they're changing plans from green to hobgoblin, is because Slott is planing on using Osborne again in amazing.

@dethpillow No I wasnt thinking it like that. More like they are calling it Avengers/Xmen and you only have ONE Xmen... plus u have carnage and hobgoblin as villains but no Spidy and you have Dr. Doom but no invisible woman or any of the other 3. Medusa...really?
