Dynamite Entertainment(
Big Trouble in Little China) has acquired the James Bond license, which gives them right to publish comics, graphic novels, and digital comics about everyone's favorite secret agent. Dynamite Entertainment publisher, Nick Barrucci, said the company was
"excited to build upon Fleming’s source material with new canonical stories, and… honored… to be a small part of his legacy, to be able to bring new stories to fans around the world.”
Corrine Turner, who is the managing director of Ian Fleming Publications Ltd., was
“thrilled that 007 will be revisiting the world of comics, as Fleming’s novels have a long and successful history in this medium, ever since they began to be published as newspaper comic strips in the late fifties." She also expressed that Dynamite Entertainment is up to the challenge of doing the Bond name justice with saying the company is
“the perfect partners to take on the challenge of continuing this legacy.” It sounds like this new 007 series is in capable hands.
Interestingly enough, the first comic series will be about the origins of 007, prior to the
Casino Royale novel. I've actually long thought doing a James Bond origin TV series would be great idea. It looks like Dynamite Entertainment is on the same page, but is utilizing that idea in comic book form. This deal not only allows Dynamite to create all-new material, but it also allows the company to adapt exisiting stories as well.
Bond Trivia: James Bond's first appearance in comic form was in 1958.
