Slott is such a predictable writer with some of the worst dialogue in comics. The singing stupid ass songs shit he does every other book and the "But that hardly matters. There won't be anything left for the others once I'm done with you" platitude. It's just so predictable and annoying. I have no idea why I still read his crap. I guess subconsciously I hope he'd improve as a writer with time, but that's not the case.

I actually like most of his stuff prior to Big Time. Human torch/ Spidey, New ways to Die, and his part in the Gauntlet. All good reads. Maybe he's abusing drugs. That's the only explanation.

Why is this man still writing Spider-Man?

I'm hoping we do get a new writer soon. I miss JMS's stories.

I miss JMS as well. JMS's stories were great on character voice alone. Even if he ended up writing two of the worst Spider-Man stories in history [at gunpoint], Peter always sounded like Peter, MJ always sounded like MJ, Aunt May was always May.

@MasterTaffer

One More Day was an editorial decision and Sins of Past supposedly was originally gonna have Peter as the father, but I'm not a 100 % sure if that's true.

@SuperiorMrGod Yeah, those two circumstances were what I was referring to with the "at gunpoint" in brackets.

JMS's run was great so far as the characters were concerned, but he also made a huge mess that took years to clean up.
I accepted Brand New Day easily just based on how much I hated The Other and Gwen Stacey's statuatory rapebabies.

Renew your vows has been pretty meh so far, and I don't hate on Slott like most people, I've enjoyed some of his Spider-Man. Some fresh blood wouldn't hurt though on the book.

I hate Slott so much. One of the worst writers to ever come into comics. I can't remember the last Spidey comic I read and enjoyed.

Maybe someday Marvel will make it right with it's comics.

Same goes to DC.

I love the fact both of them are making huge movie universes, but please, focus a little more on the comics. There needs to be a little bit of quality control on these new comics they are publishing. Crappy Spider-Men, Dr. Strange with an axe, Steve Rodgers being ancient, Gordon as Batman, Supes with no powers, Bruce being a God? I mean, come on. These comics have no heart.

@rabid JMS wanted to make Gwen's children legitimately Peter's. I think it was an editorial decision to skew his story. I thought The Other was an excellent plot to establish a further evolution of his character. I actually think it should have happened much sooner. The new powers were great. Not too crazy and not too obvious. Reading the early SM comics Stan had always teased that Peter's powers were supposed to have grown. He got his powers in the middle of puberty. There was a question of what he would be like by the time he matured but the idea got lost in the clutter as other writers took over. JMS gave a great explanation that Peter was always afraid of exploring any further of what he was and forced a psychological inhibition on his developing powers. I was upset JMS left before we ever got to find out what the Spider God's ultimate plans for Peter were.

I was never a big fan of all this Spider-totem stuff. It never felt like a good fit for a Peter Parker adventure, and it's all so vague as if they never could figure out a good way to write it. I really never liked the idea that a supernatural force urged the spider to bite him. It's dressing up an already perfect origin story. I feel the same way about Silk.
That being said, I really don't mind Kaine being the new Other and the true totem.
