COMICS: DC Comics May Just Have Killed A Major Character Tied To Batman!
A team member in Detective Comics has by the looks of it died by another member in this week's issue that could shake the entire series' status quo.
Clayface, who has been closely working with Batman and his team since the beginning of Rebirth for almost two years now, spent what may very well be his final moments having an emotional conversation with Cassandra. The issue reveals Clayface lose control of his powers and mind, grow in massive size and threatening Gotham City, it took the majority of the comic for Red Robin, Batwoman, Spoiler and Black Bat to calm him down.
Furthermore, the angered and uncontrolled Clayface is stopped after Cassandra Cain fires a chemical into his brain which for a short time restores his human appearance and mentality. Unfortunately when it's revealed that the "cure" is not permanent, the former villain, in an heartbreaking moment says "bad guys don't get happy endings."
Batwoman, with no other choice had done what Clayface believed needed to be done, shooting him in the head with the weapon created by her father which was specifically designed to kill him in case he became Clayface yet again.
Such is the nature of a cliffhanger like this considering the vast majority of the matter coming out the other side of his doesn't appear to be blood, raising the question of whether Clayface really is dead or not. Either way, due to Batman ordering Batwoman not to put use of any weapons created by Colony in Gotham, there could still be consequences even if Clayface survives somehow.
The answer of whether or not Clayface survived should be answered in the coming issue of Detective Comics #974, releasing on February 14 from writer James Tynion IV and artist Jesus Merino.
