The news that DC were planning to release Before Watchmen: Moloch came as quite a surprise to fans. Why? Well, despite the fact that the mystical villain plays a major role in Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen, the prequels released so far have focused only on the main cast members. The two-part series will be written by J. Michael Straczynski (Before Watchmen: Nite Owl) and pencilled by Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets), who also provides the cover below which has been released by DC Comics through BuzzFeed. They also reveal the exciting news that Olly Moss will illustrate an issue #1 variant.

Next thing you know they will devote a two part series to exploring the career of Hector Godfrey and Doug Roth.

The reason is simple. When Watchmen was produced, Moore intended the comic to be a one shot deal. He even received a verbal promise from DC executives at the time that such would be the case.

This is just a crass, cynical ploy by DC executives to make more money exploiting a classic work in the genre.

I care. And so do many people with actual standards who loved the original Watchmen comic series as a great piece of literature.

If DC wants to whore their most prized property for extra cash that's their prerogative as actual owners of the Watchmen brand. But when I see them piss all over what Moore and Gibbons did I'm not going to call it rain.

This whole gimmick is a lame, cynical and transparent attempt to revive a once great series in order to make up for the fact that today's comic industry is devoid of any originality or intelligence. The fact that execs at DC comics can actually throw this slop at dimwits like you who will lap it up only reaffirms my belief that 10 percent of comic readership in the country have any standards whatsoever.

Watchmen wasn't about the superheroes it was written at a time of the cold war and was a tense political thriller. The new stuff is just a cash in . I think I might write The Bible 2 and have Jesus as a Gay Ninja with his twelve prostitues touring round the middle east curing sexually transmitted diseases spreading a message of the virtues of playing Pac Man. But hey if you don't like it don't read it I mean it won't dampen down the original, cheapen it or dilute its effect - will it!

You're still missing the point.

I'm not worried about the original. Nothing DC does will ever tarnish what Moore did for them. I'm critical about the sad state of DC comics that they have to exploit a work that is over 25 years old to make money. Plus the comics suck.

I really like that cover. I almost didn't even feel like coming on this page because I knew there would be an Alan Moore fight. Regardless of whether you support them or not you either read them or you don't and you like them or you dont. That's all I care about.

I read Rorschach issue 1 and i thought he was really out of character, too many one liners. It's kinda like watching a popular band replace the lead singer, it just ain't the same and seems more like a novelty if anything.

If you want more watchmen esque shit just go read Moore's other comics cause that is the only way you'll get it. Moore sold you a story, DC is selling you characters. Go ahead and waste your money.
