COMICS: First Look At CONSTANTINE #1

COMICS: First Look At CONSTANTINE #1

Hellblazer is dead, long live Constantine? Fans were dismayed when they heard Vertigo's longest running series was ending, and the character would be getting a watered down DCNU rebooting, but can Robert Vendittit keep that old magic alive somehow?. Check out the cover to his first issue..

The star of JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK is unleashed in his all-new ongoing series! • Liar, cheater, manipulator…John Constantine is all of these, and yet he uses these skills and more to protect the world from the darkest corners of the DC Universe. • What Constantine learns in this first issue will shake the very foundations of the New 52…and only he knows how to deal with it!

Well Hellblazer fans, will you be picking this up? John Constantine has been used pretty well in Justice League Dark in fairness, but he is nothing compared to the manipulative, foul mouthed bastard from his solo Vertigo series. It's not all about the bad language, sex and violence either, Hellblazer was just..for grown ups! I don't see why they couldn't have both running at the same time, but what can ya do. We'll find out what Vendittit brings to the table next March.

Nope. Like it's said in the article: "John Constantine has been used pretty well in Justice League Dark in fairness, but he is nothing compared to the manipulative, foul mouthed bastard from his solo Vertigo series."

Just to play devil's advocate...but I'm very very old so I remember when Vertigo first came out...and Hellblazer was already an existing series. It just switched over to the vertigo imprint. He was a spin off from Alan Moore's Swamp Thing series and it made very grown up use of DCU characters. So John has always existed in the DCU, but somehow Vertigo came to be where the magical DCU characters hung their hats. But with Swamp Thing and Animal Man in the New 52 it makes sense that John would head over as well. What it comes down to is who is the creative team. Not so sure this art is...and alas...this art is cheezy and cliche'.

There are people who will support this. Dont buy this, execs want numbers, if they're low they'll cancel it alltogether, but they'll eventually bring it back. But how they were successful with it before. Not destroying it til the consumers hate it and they have to pull it for longer.

Yeah I like the foul mouthed Constantine more than this watered down version where he is in the same universe as Superman and Batman.

ill be honest, i know the film Constantine wasnt the most perfect representation of Hellblazer. But non the less i think its still an awesome stand alone film and happy it exists. i feel that keanue reeves did very well with what he could do, and the amazing devil, well words cannot describe. Best satan FULL STOP

Finally, I've been waiting for a watered-down John Constantine. I hope that's not a real cigarette.
