This Wednesday's issue of Batgirl - which sees the Gotham crime-fighter left a bloody mess at the hands of Knightfall - also acts as a prologue to the 'Death of the Family' crossover arc beginning in Batman #13, which will eventually bring Batgirl and The Joker together for the first time since he shot and paralyzed her in Alan Moore's The Killing Joke.

Batgirl Issue 13 Exclusive Preview

Writer Gail Simone on what she promises will be a "memorable moment" in the four issue run..

"Her payback is long, long overdue. It was immensely cathartic. It's a brutal story: The Joker is the guy who haunts your nightmares, and he nearly destroyed Barbara once already.

The Joker is really the Elvis of comic-book villains. There's no one with his primal star power, there's no one else anywhere who has sent more chills up the spines of readers, because there genuinely is something terrifying about him."

I agree with Gail Simone. The Joker is one of the best comic book villians of all time. (#1 on my list) This is going to be a great storyline!

so, forgive me, but can anyone clarify for someone who hasn't been following the new 52....

would Barbara have any knowledge of the Killing Joke or her past life as Oracle? was this really a reboot, or a universe where everyone knows something is wrong? otherwise, that "cathartic" revenge is really just for the readers, not the characters

Not loving her walking again. What a huge 'F-YOU' to handicapped people. How man heroes did they have? her and daredevil, thats it. Almost as annoying as a character dying just to come back to life 6 months later to boost sales.

Orcale > Batgirl, no questions asked. There are so many reasons (okay, opinions) as to why Barbara Gordon should have stayed in the wheelchair. For a company that has clearly been making efforts to diversify their hero/villain population, that was at least 3 steps backwards.

Is Bat-timeline rebooted or not? I still don undrestand this new 52.. i read batman books were not rebooted, then I read Dick Grayson never became Robin in this new 52 (so its rebooted?), now this news about Bat girl makes wonder, is DC comics rebooting mistakes of continuity or what?

@xin
Tim Drake was always Red Robin and his parents are in witness protection after he stole Penguin's money electronically and redistribute it like a Robin Hood to get Bruce's attention. Dick was 15 when he became Robin and Jason Todd shares a connection to the Joker. Besides that, look to the DC redhood movie for his new52 rebirth origin. Basically they managed to take 70+ years of comics and condense it into a timeline of 5 years, since it seemed he's barely aged over the decades. Things like killing joke, Batman and son, and black mirror still happened, but things like Cassandra Cain as Batgirl, One Year Later & Infinite Crisis did not. The biggest question that can be raised from the new52 Bat-Family is whether or not Flashpoint happened...
