The people over at
Comic Book Resources have scored an exclusive interview with Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato, who are current co-writers on The Flash. They currently have The Scarlet Speedster going up against Gorilla Grodd. However come February that will change. Reverse-Flash is set to make his debut in DC's new 52 in a new story line that will happen in the pages of The Flash #17.
"It happened naturally. It wasn't really in the plans, actually, in the beginning. We specifically had in mind not to pull him in for quite some time, but where the story was heading and where the characters were heading, it made a lot of sense," explained Manapul. While Reverse-Flash's first appearance will be in issue #17, his full story arc wont happen until issue #20 in May.
There will be a shroud of mystery when Reverse-Flash makes his debut with Manapul and Buccellto being coy on which one it will be. Previous incarnations have centered around Edward Clariss, Eobard Thawne, and Hunter Zolomon. The duo did tease that this carnation of the character is unlike anything we have ever seen. They are going to
"really take the 'reverse' part of it seriously." according to Buccellto. One thing will be for sure about the character is, don't expect the classic yellow costume. While the duo said there has been no designs done for him, they are for sure throwing out the yellow.
So what does this mean for Barry? Well, you can expect for the Reverse-Flash story line to test him mentally. Manapull and Buccellato are looking to test Barry's detective skills. They also mentioned that they are introducing Reverse-Flash to show a Ying to Barry's Yang. For the latest on all things comics make sure to check back here at CBM.
