COMICS: Terry McGinnis Confirmed To Arrive In The DC Universe Proper

Last month I reported the announcement of THE NEW 52: FUTURES END, a weekly series to be launched in May. To reiterate a little, it follows three characters in different time periods as the story unfolds; Frankenstein in the past, Firestorm in the present, and Batman Beyond in the future.

When this book was announced, we all assumed that it would be Terry McGinnis under the cowl. Brian Azzarello, one of the writers on the series, confirmed that today when talking to Comic Book Resources.

"I just needed a character from the future," Azzarello told CBR. "And that was the only one I knew. [Laughs] I thought we needed a hook -- we needed somebody big, and somebody that hadn't really appeared in The New 52 yet. Since we were dealing with this jump into the future, it made sense to bring in Terry McGinnis."

He adds:"He's got the same costume, I think. Is he different? Yes. It's different, it's New 52. It's from a different sort of future. Is it going to be recognizable? Yes. Is he going to have differences? Yes, of course he's going to have differences. I'm not going to tell you what they are."

So what do you all think of Terry finally being introduced into proper DC canon? I'm personally excited and think it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for the Batman mythos. Below is another look at the cover for the debut issue of The New 52: Futures End, which you can pick up on Free Comic Book Day (May 2), courtesy of DC Entertainment.

Omac should be the villain of the Justice League movie.

Braniac 5 is waaaaaaaaayyyyy into the future. About 1000 years to be exact.

Batman Beyond is only about 50 years in to the future.

I'm not too excited about this. I love Firestorm and anything DC so I'll probably check it out anyways.

Keep in mind that this is FIVE years in the future, folks. It will be a little bit different from Terry's animated incarnation. But therein lies the intrigue.

I wouldn't call the New 52 "proper DC canon," as I fully expect. It all get retconned within the next ten years or so, but I'm just old school I guess.

awesome!

I don't really care if it's in continuity
n you old people need to stop whinning about the new 52
n trying to ruin comics for young people like us

by the way some of you people are confusing this terry McGinnis with the DC-animated-universe's terrys been in comics set in the animated universe but only once in DC's mainstream universe as a baby in BATMAN #666

I'm excited for this though
I loved the show I'm guessing terry won't be bruce's biological son in this universe since damian is but maybe it's damian's brother?
