Last month I reported the announcement of THE NEW 52: FUTURES END, a weekly series to be launched in May. To reiterate a little, it follows three characters in different time periods as the story unfolds; Frankenstein in the past, Firestorm in the present, and Batman Beyond in the future.
When this book was announced, we all assumed that it would be Terry McGinnis under the cowl. Brian Azzarello, one of the writers on the series, confirmed that today when talking to Comic Book Resources.
"I just needed a character from the future," Azzarello told CBR. "And that was the only one I knew. [Laughs] I thought we needed a hook -- we needed somebody big, and somebody that hadn't really appeared in The New 52 yet. Since we were dealing with this jump into the future, it made sense to bring in Terry McGinnis."
He adds:"He's got the same costume, I think. Is he different? Yes. It's different, it's New 52. It's from a different sort of future. Is it going to be recognizable? Yes. Is he going to have differences? Yes, of course he's going to have differences. I'm not going to tell you what they are."
So what do you all think of Terry finally being introduced into proper DC canon? I'm personally excited and think it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for the Batman mythos. Below is another look at the cover for the debut issue of The New 52: Futures End, which you can pick up on Free Comic Book Day (May 2), courtesy of DC Entertainment.
