COMICS: Who Is Daniel West, "The Newest Member Of The West Family"?

If you picked up The Flash #0 on Wednesday, you may have noticed the introduction of a new character who shares his surname with fan favourite Flash, 'Wally West'. Who is Daniel and what role will he play in "The New 52"? Read on for details!

When Daniel West was introduced in the pages of The Flash #0, he didn't really seem like that much of a big deal, despite sharing a surname with a character who has yet to make his debut in "The New 52" (much to the fury of Wally West's legion of fans). Well, DC's The Source blog have now posted a story with the headline, "Introducing the Newest Member of the West Family," making it clear that he'll play a pivotal role in the series moving forward and IS somehow related to Wally.

"Daniel West is a classic case of juvenile delinquency," series co-writer and artist Francis Manapul told the site. "Unfortunately for him, his first major crime is foiled by Flash's first ever outing as a superhero. In the present, after having served his debt to society, Daniel just wants his old life back. All he wants is to go back home. But what he finds is a city over run by apes, and a sister that's nowhere to be found. Welcome home indeed. He'll be setting forth to find his lost sister amidst the disastrous events of 'Gorilla Warfare!'"

So, what do you guys think Daniel West's role in the series will be? Barry Allen was close to the West family, but he showed no sign of actually knowing Daniel when he caught him in the pages of The Flash #0, making it unlikely that this will indeed mean the return of Wally. While some sort of resurrection for the character has been hinted at in the past, it has also been hinted at that he doesn't even exist in the new continuity...

While Barry was the Flash I first read as a kid, Wally was the Flash I grew up with and came to love. I am EXTREMELY disappointed Wally is nowhere to be found. I have stopped reading the Flash because, to me, Wally is the Flash. I find Barry to boring.

I've read about wally as a flash for more than 20 years now is gone, and who is this daniel west anyway. I think that with the new 52 we have more new comics but for me the DCuniverse died and this "universe" is not one I care about, even if some comics are ok, but the DCuniverse in not here anymore.

They made me miss even Connor Hawke...

I hope Daniel somehow ties the west Family and the Allen family together, explaining why Wally got the same powers as Barry, e. g. Daniel is Wally's father and Barry's missing brother or anything like that.

@XavierLehnsherr Since DC is pandering to religious groups (i.e. the new Green Lantern is Muslim) why not a Mormon Asian Flash. I don't see any Mormon superheroes.

uh, you guys, there is a Philipino Superhero: Batman! I recommend researching/ viewing "Alyas Batman y Robin". At the very least, its better than Dark Knight Rises.

If Superman's story was translated into a believable real life story, he's actually a Mexican.

I don't blame DCnU, I've read those books, I like Wally cause when I started to read DC Barry was just gone after crisis. I don't blame the new series, that it's good like the new WW, I just say that the New52 doesn't seem a Universe anymore, beside crossover, thare's NO feeling about it. I liked when Hal Jordan returned, I've always liked him, I liked when Barry returned too: as I always say is not the Death/rebirth/reboot in per se, is always HOW you do it, and DC now, as a universe, is not in well hands as it's been for over 30years from now. The people that wrote bad Marvel( and Valiant/Acclaim)in the '90 now are writin the New52 and I mean Lodbell and Nicieza, in fact a friend of mine calls DC now the LOBDELLVERSE!!! :-)
There are always good book on 52 books monthly, but like marvel in the '90 that on more than 80 books had just only the Hulk by Peter David and a few more. I'm sorry now that DC after the JLA by Morrison( Best JLA EVER, and pherhaps best superhero book ever for some people) and Onemillion and so on now has only a few great writers, I invite you to count them, and Marvel have more. For exaple, Bendis just left Avengers and Bru left CAP. Who are the replacements. Hickman and Remender. Two great writers. Beside Morrison and Johns( Cornwell just left after doing great on Demonkights) you have a few more left and the rest are professionals but not good writers like DC used to have.
I hope that will change, that's all
I like Marvel, but I've read tons of DC too and Valiant had my heart and have every books ( and mean every).
The point is where DC is going because if you don't have a long plan for the future and good writers to do it you won't go far...

Honestly my favorite flash is Barry so I'm happy he's getting the spotlight again.
