DC's New GREEN LANTERN ('Simon Baz') Gets His Own Action Figure In Spring 2013

Well, this didn't take long! Introduced YESTERDAY in Green Lantern #0, DC's first Arab-American ring bearer will be getting his own action figure from DC Collectibles next Spring and you can check out the first image of the toy right here!

DC Comics introduced a new Green Lantern on Wednesday - a Muslim from Dearborn, Michigan, who leaves behind street racing to join an intergalactic police force. Simon Baz, the muscular protagonist in his early 20s with the Arabic word for courage, "al-shuja'a," tattooed on his arm, is the latest example of superhero diversity in the comic book world. The new story begins with Baz as a child watching television images of a burning World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, according to a copy of the comic book viewed by Reuters. As an adult, Baz, with a criminal record for illegal street racing, turns to car theft after he loses his job at an automobile factory. A car he tries to steal lands him in the middle of a terrorism investigation. Later on, he is magically bestowed with a ring that gives him super powers and anoints him a Green Lantern. [Reuters] Well, he's only been around for a day after making his debut in Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke's Green Lantern #0, but the Facebook page of DC Collectibles have unveiled an action figure of 'Simon Baz' which will be released next year.

Not a big fan of GL running around with a gun.

"I got this power ring that can create anything I can imagine, but Imma bust a cap in that ass!"

Seems pointless/stupid to me.

i was gonna say the same,its a pointless idea.we've all seen john stewart create hand guns & assault rifle light constructs why does this lantern need a real gun.

Well, even after reading GL #0 I'm a bit sceptical. I don't know where this is heading... but so far everything Johns has done with GL was great and stuff has made sense in the end. The guy has a plan.

The character seems cool but the mask looks like a wrestler and the gun is pointless. This character could have been done better.

Here's a radical idea maybe you could try..now bear with me here..but how about actually reading the comics he appears in, and maybe..just maybe..it will explain why he carries a gun as well as the ring. I know, I'm kinda clutching at straws here:)

They are wasting little time squeezing all of the money can out of this one. I am glad they included that Arabic tattoo on his arm so that I have no doubts he is Arabic instead of black, Indian or Mexican. Despicable.

Don't forget to explain what was happening.

They were fighting enemies that had high defense abilities against Green Lantern constructs.
So Guy recruits bad ass vet Lanterns. They stopped galactic weapons traffickers and confiscated their weapons (earth weapons mainly).

Having that gun is pretty strange but if his ring is outta juice then let the bullets loose!

Its great to see DC taking opportunities with their new 52. And who knows? Maybe the gun IS a light construct, could just be a bad action figure or something.
