Geoff Johns Talks JUSTICE LEAGUE, Lex Luthor, Jason Fabok and Teases 'The Darkseid War'

Geoff Johns, the writer behind many of DC Comics' recent events, spoke about his current Justice League title, teasing future storylines The Amazo Virus and The Darkseid War, the return of Green Lantern and the work of artist Jason Fabok.

Former Green Lantern and current Justice League writer Geoff Johns sat down for an in-depth interview with IGN, released today on their website. At the conclusion of Forever Evil, iconic Superman villain Lex Luthor joined the team, apparently sincere about reforming himself. "We're about to do a storyline this October called The Amazo Virus that really delves into Luthor trying to put the past behind him," Johns explained. "But because of all the things he's done, the past catches up with him." The storyline was previously revealed in solicitations, and will be the first issue illustrated by series-newcomer, Jason Fabok -- a fan-favourite artist on many of the Batman titles for several years (including Batman: The Dark Knight and more recently, Batman Eternal). "I can't wait for people to see his pencils. I tend to work with the same artists a lot, because there's nothing more important than a collaborator when you're working in comics," Johns said; frequent collaborators with the writer include Ivan Reis and Doug Mahnke. "To be able to work with someone like Jason who's this quickly rising star -- his work, his detail, his character stuff, his scope -- it's so amazing, the passion he's putting into it. He loves comics as much as I do. I think it's going to be really fun to see this new era of Justice League."

The final pages of Forever Evil featured the three remaining Crime Syndicate members incarcerated and the reveal of the New 52 version of the Anti-Monitor, who will play a big part in the return of Darkseid. "The Justice League is getting ready and getting prepared for whatever destroyed the Crime Syndicate's Earth, which is on its way here, from Forever Evil," Johns described, referring to the Anti-Monitor. "We know that Darkseid's returning to the Justice League too, and those two are set on a collision course. So we're essentially building up to a big storyline next year called The Darkseid War that will kind of be the end cap to the first big chapter of the New 52 Justice League. That's going to be a pretty massive storyline, and that's Darkseid versus the Anti-Monitor with the Justice League caught in between." The Darkseid War will not be massive in terms of being a crossover; rather, Johns reassures it will remain in the Justice League title. On another topic, one of the most asked questions concering the book is if we'll see Green Lantern return to the team, after Hal Jordan departed two years ago. He says that a Lantern will make their way back onto the roster, and that "there are plans" for his GL creation, Simon Baz. What do you make of his comments? Excited to see the clash between Anti-Monitor and Darkseid? Leave your thoughts below.

I hope the plans for the one GL being on the JL isn't Simon. I'm just not a fan of that character. I would like to see it be Hal or Kyle. The battle between Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor should be cool. It will be interesting to see where they take that story. I'd love to see them throw in Imperiex Prime as another villain too

I know it's been a while ever since, but it was a very bad move making Darkseid the first villain the Justice League ever fought. Just think about it: if they could take out Darkseid, then they should be able to take out pretty much every other villain that comes in their way except for maybe Anti-Monitor. They had to make up a villain to challenge the Justice League in Vol. 2.

However, this does indeed sound pretty interesting. I might get back to reading DC.

Give me Simon. He has gotten almost no exposure recently.

No crossovers! thank the lord, every story this year has had crossovers, I drew the line at Superman doomed (and allits off shoots), this current doomsday story had so many, I refused to get them all, TP me thinks.

@Superior - They didn't take on Darkseid, they BFR him. And Darkseid is hardly the most powerful person the JL could fight. In the DCU multiverse, Darkseid isn't even top 20 in terms of power.

@ScRipt69 - I agree. Events are just cheap ploys for sales. Keep that for lame ass Marvel who don't have any stories to tell.

Thanks, Geoff, for keeping this story contained within the Justice League book, as opposed to turning it into a 10 issue mega event with tie-ins and one-shots.
