COMICS: Ben Reilly Makes Peter Parker An Offer He Can't Refuse In AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #22 Preview

The Scarlet Spider has returned from the dead, and in this first look at Amazing Spider-Man #22, Peter Parker vents his anger at his "brother from another blood cell" after Ben makes a big offer...

The latest issue of Clone Conspiracy wrapped up with The Jackal being revealed as a resurrected Ben Reilly, and based on what we see in the preview below for Amazing Spider-Man #22, we can expect to finally find out how he returned from the dead after literally crumbling into dust in Peter Parker's hands. We'll also hopefully discover what's led the Scarlet Spider down a seemingly villainous path!

However, this is a status quo which may not last as there have been rumours lately that we're getting a new Scarlet Spider series once this event wraps up. Kaine was the last hero to hold that mantle, but Ben being back in the suit is something a lot of fans would like to see. Of course, you can't help but wonder whether the Marvel Universe really needs yet another Spider-Man! What do you guys think?

I'm still hoping for them to address and try to do an in-story fix of OMD.

Why does he need to be the Jackal?
Why does he need to be Ben Reilly?
Why doesnt he know that bringing the villains back to life would be a bad thing?

Honestly, I cared more about Ben Reilly than I do Ben Parker, so the desecration is pretty much already at maximum.

Clones, resurrection, and dead parent figures. Really nailing all the comic book troupes on the head here.

@ODanil - Ben was like, the ONE good thing that came out of that overdrawn out story.

It's Spider-Man and the lame one at that, who cares. Far better Marvel books out right now: Old Man Logan, Moon Knight, Vision, Ultimates, Black Panther, Dare Devil and Power Man & Iron Fist to name a few. I have no complaints with Marvel, since they are changing characters and story lines I don't follow anyway.

The same with DC, I only read Batman. What they do with the rest of their characters I can care less. Manga is far better anyway.

I'd be more annoyed with the spoiler in the headline if I cared more about the storyline of this series. There's a reason I'm a few issues behind. Slott's run has rarely (if ever) felt like a must-read that makes me excited to see what happens next. That's a problem for the flagship series of Marvel's biggest character.

I get that Slott loves Spider-man and wants to continue writing him for as long as possible, but he's had a respectably long run. There comes a point when you have to do what's best for the series, and I think a new writer has a better chance of revitalizing it than a continuation of Slott's tenure. If they wanna appease him, give him one of the secondary Spider-man series. They had that Spidey series recently and there have been other complementary titles in the past like Sensational, Spectacular, and Web of, and Peter Parker. Keep the guy happy with something like that if you must and bring in someone who can put ASM back on the map.

@BIGBMH - Any Idea's for a writer you'd like to take over?

@Awest66 - To be perfectly honest, I don't have a great sense of how many writers are currently working for Marvel and who the best are. I'm reading a handful of series now, and I have writers who I like but I'm not sure who I'd go with.

Off the top of my head, Matt Fraction might be an interesting pic. His Hawkeye receiveda lot of acclaim and was pretty popular. I was kind of hoping to see a bit of a Hawkeye-ization of more Marvel series since it found a unique personality, felt like it was smaller scale, contained, and focused on character. That could be a nice direction for ASM to go in for a while. We've had Spider-man on a global scale with Parker Industries. Fraction might be the guy to do a "back to basics" Spider-man series that really gets to the core of what fans love about the character.

I don't necessarily want Peter to be selling pictures of Spider-man again, but I'd like to see him in a place that feels like a natural progression of the character. Peter working at Horizon Labs actually made sense to me, but I'm not a big fan of the current Parker Industries status quo because Peter didn't earn that. We didn't see him conceive of this, plan it, and work for it. Doc Ock did it while he was in Peter's body and Peter just comes back to a new life.

... I have no idea what's going on. Ben Reilly is dead, man. DEAD.

I honestly don't get all the hate surrounding this series. Sure, I just started reading comics recently and wasn't even born when the infamous "Clone Saga" started (got my knowledge about its plot and fan reaction through wiki pages and videos), so I don't have all the emotional baggage and nostalgia for comics as most have, but people seem to WANT to hate on this so badly that they'll go to any lenghts to not enjoy it.

Persoanlly, I find this story fine - not great, but enjoyable.

@ComicsFreshman - It's because a lot of this just doesn't make sense character wise. Peter hit the nail on the head when he said Ben Riley would never do something like this.
Slott has resurrected a long dead character and done a complete 180 on his personality just for the sake of this twist.
