Wow. Surf has always been a trippy book, but is Ron Lim really unavailable?

looks terrible, what a wasted opportunity.

Silver Surfer is my favourite marvel character, he has been done justice in YEARS. ffs.

There's always so much hate for Mike Allred's artwork on this site. I don't get it. I think he's one of the greatest of all time. Very Kirby-esque, and if you hate on Jack Kirby, there's nothing that can be done to help your terrible taste. If you've never read any of Allred's Madman stuff, do yourself a favor and do it now. Aliens, robots, mutant beatniks, mad scientists, shady government agents, super heroics... Madman has it all. Both kids and adults alike can enjoy it.

Somebody explain to me how this clean, solid line work is "awful". You can definitely tell which people on this site have never picked up a comic book before.

I've always hated Allred's style. Him and Javier Pulido are the 2 artists that will prevent me from buying a book just because of the art.

If Deadpool wasn't planking on that last cover it could actually look pretty cool. But as is, eh, not too funny. Not interested in this book thanks to Slott.

@Jollem - You're right. Taste is subjective, but there's a reason there are parameters for good and bad taste. I can understand why somebody might not like certain artist's particular style, but to say Allred's artwork is "terrible", "awful", or "pathetic is really reaching. I don't think what I said has anything to do with snobbishness at all. Some people just have bad taste.

Silver Surfer =/= Dr. Who

I've seen art from Allred for other titles/characters and I didn't always care for it much, but I absolutely love these Silver Surfer comics!

I remember loving the Surfer comics when Ron Lim was the illustrator.

I like this art (not reading the title though), it kinda reminds me of Darwin Cooke for some reason.

It will be interesting to see Surfer meet the new improved lifebringing-instead-of-doombringing Galactus.

Everytime I see Allred's stuff I instantly cringe. It's not so much that he is a terrible artist but I really don't like his lack of shading and the way he does faces. Why does Silver Surfer have HUGE black outlines around his eyes and mouth. To compare him to early comic book art is fair but Jack Kirby is heads and tails above Allred. Go compare Kirby's Silver Surfer to this. It ain't even close.

I have been reading Silver Surfer since the '80s, and Slott and Allred's rendition reminds me a lot of the beginning of SS Vol 3. It feels cosmic again! Pushing the bounds of physics and having that influence storytelling! Probably the best comic I read last year!

This won't last 6 months. The artwork is too kiddy. The Surfer should be a powerful badass, not a kid's coloring book character. Such a shame.

Silver Surfer: Requiem is my all time favorite SS story.

I never tire of people on this site who don't even pick up the current comics complaining about art from fantastic artists.

Oh look guys, look at all the weird and quirky shit we've got on our cover, ooooh, there's like a b8unch of old toys that kids won't recognise today, gosh we're so quirky, this book's so quirky and weird, ohmigod, look at the weird font we've got for our title, uuuuh it's so groovy and hip guys, loooooook.

[frick] off Marvel, this isn't Silver Surfer and you know it.

I have nothing againbst Allred's artwork at this stage. I've warmed to it. I hate what they've done to the character that essentially paved the way for comics being more than just kid's magazines and being serious methods of storytelling.
