Thanks to Comic Book Resources, we have a first look at Steve McNiven's variant cover and interior pages for Monsters Unleashed #1. Set to be released next January, the series will be written by Cullen Bunn and feature a rotating team of artists which also includes Greg Land, Leinil Yu, Salvador Larroca, and Adam Kubert. The basic premise is going to be the classic Marvel Universe monsters all attacking at the same time, something which is sure to pose a problem for both The Avengers and the world!

"The reasons behind the monster invasion is a bit of a mystery for the heroes to try to figure out. There is a power at work here, a power that has a history going back thousands of years, a power that has impacted numerous worlds besides Earth," Bunn explained. "Early on, we’re going to meet a young man who has the incredible ability to summon monsters out of thin air. Whether these creatures come from the depths of the Earth or the depths of space, this guy can call them up in the blink of an eye. It’s a terribly powerful gift, one that this young man doesn’t really understand. His lack of control could very well bring about the apocalypse." That sounds like a lot of fun, right?

Batman's Night of the Monster Men is alright so I'll probably check this out. Hopefully it's better than Night of the Monster Men tho.

What is a monster though?

What makes you a monster? Is it just being big, ugly and destructive? Are monsters animals or higher life forms?

Isn't The Hulk a glorified monster?

Are we not monsters to them?

I hope they take take this event up a level or two, and ask questions like these while making a genuine tribute to classic Kaiju-storytelling.

I wish they would bring back The Tomb of Dracula.

@thor2273 - That would be awesome if done right but it would be pretty hard to top. That's one of the best series in the history of Marvel Comics.
