COMICS: Dan Slott's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Run May Be Over As Spidey Goes To War With The Green - And Red - Goblin

It's all going to kick off between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin next March for "Go Down Swinging" but what's the deal with the villainous Red Goblin? Hit the jump for details on Dan Slott's final story.

Spider-Man's rivalry with the Green Goblin is legendary and it appears as if "Go Down Swinging" will bring that war to an end along with Dan Slott's lengthy Amazing Spider-Man run. While that hasn't been confirmed, the solicitation for March's issue #797 reads, "Dan Slott has saved his most harrowing Spider-Man story for last." That definitely sounds like we're getting some sort of epic conclusion!

A teaser video has also been released which recaps the history between the two villains but also introduces a new foe in the form of the Red Goblin. Who or what is he? We'll have to wait and see!

"The last time we saw the Green Goblin was in ‘Goblin Nation’ at the culmination of Superior Spider-Man,Spider-Editor Nick Lowe says in a press release. "You’d almost think that was the biggest Green Goblin story Dan Slott had in him. You’d be wrong." It's going to be very interesting seeing how this plays out but seeing as Norman Osborn still doesn't know that Spider-Man is Peter Parker, you have to hope that will change as it's something which has always made their bitter rivalry even better.

@Krampus - Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Demogoblin, Proto-Goblin, Grey Goblin, Jack-O-Lantern

Yep. We totally needed another Goblin themed character.

A lot of people are going to be happy about this.

I never really hated Slott, but his writing was always too campy for me, especially recently. The title has desperately needed a new writer for some time now.

@MattBellissimo - Slott started off well but I think he got less and less creative as he grew older. As his talent reduced his desperation increased.

@MattBellissimo - Oddly enough, the best part of his run was Superior Spider-Man when Otto was Spidey, the dude just doesn't get Peter Parker. If they got Hickman or Remender to replace him, I'd bust a nut.

@soberchimera - I'm one of those who enjoyed Superior Spider-Man in concept. Otto being Spidey was a cool idea, but I just hate the way Slott writes Doc Ock. The arrogance and the lesson are all good concepts but it's just SO campy.

@MattBellissimo - That's basically Slott in a nutshell, good ideas, terrible execution.

It doesn't matter if Slott leaves or not, there's some kind of iron grip on Spider-man from the bosses at Marvel so that he can never develop as a character. He's permanently stuck where he is.

@IKidYouNotMan - This is exactly why I dropped the book and a lot of other comics.
I remember when Slott came on and introduced the idea of Peter being a business owner and Tony Stark lite.
I actually liked the idea but said to myself. 'It won't last 2 years.'

Low and behind here we are two years later and Peter has lost his company, is a menace, and is working at the Daily Bugle again.

Two years of stories and 'development' and we're back to the exact place we were before.

I'm betting Norman made a deal with Mephisto. When he found Kumar Taj, he got a glimpse of how powerful he could be wielding magic and he's tried breaking into the Sanctum Santorum to steal something. Maybe Norm's about to go mystical.
Not a huge fan of this book, but its not the worst. I much prefer what's happening in Spectacular. Sadly the two Spider-Man books are the only thing worth reading at Marvel right now.
Lostcause
Lostcause - 12/20/2017, 8:10 AM
@rabid - I like that idea! Norman isn't going anywhere. Taking on magic like a real goblin....I LOVE IT! I agree on the Marvel part. I get all the Spidey verse comics, Star Wars(epic stuff and canon), Deadpoolverse, and All New Wolverine. I dropped the rest and picked up all the Bat family comics, Flash, WW, and all the Event comics. DC is killing right now...on paper.
Lostcause
Lostcause - 12/20/2017, 8:46 AM
@rabid - It was #32 when Norman looked in to the Green Emerald and all the Sorcerers were ban from training him in the dark arts...Mephisto can train anyone he wants.
