COMICS: Expect A Brand New SPIDER-MAN, HULK, & More Post SECRET WARS

Marvel is still adamant that this upcoming All-New, All-Different initiative is not a full reboot, but we now know that after Secret Wars all titles will revert back to issue #1, and we can expect new characters to take up the mantles of Spider-Man, Wolverine and The Hulk. More past the jump...

We finally have some details on what to expect from Marvel's All-New, All-Different post Secret Wars plans. According to Mashable, the publisher's new initiative will "see all of its comic books revert back to No. 1s, introduce all-new superheroes and significantly alter others, including a new Spider-Man, a new Hulk and new team-ups never before imagined at the House of Ideas."

Because this won't actually erase the continuity established during the years leading up to Secret Wars, it's being dubbed a "reset" rather than a reboot, but it's very clear we are looking at some massive alterations to the Marvel Comics Universe on the horizon. Here's what Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso had to say.

""We've been planning it for years. We realized that ['Secret Wars'] would be a game-changing moment that would allow us to create a big white canvas. It’s an unprecedented chance for us to tell new stories across all titles with new No. 1s. There’s no red sky, there’s no icecaps, but there will be new places on the map, there will be new characters that were just too cool to not bring back from 'Secret Wars.' There are new teams that are necessary to deal with new threats. We chose all of our creators to come in with a hook — a big thing has happened that changes the status quo of the character."

Only recently we saw new characters take up the mantles of Thor and Captain America, and though it sounds like Jane Foster and Sam Wilson will remain in those roles, there'll be new faces beneath Spidey's mask and the Green Goliath's raging visage. "The all-new Hulk ... this character is certain to cause debate," continued Alonso. "The same people who went crazy with female Thor will have a field day with this one." The new Wall Crawler is also bound to stir up some controversy, though Alonso hints that Peter Parker will still be around too. Plus, we'll also be getting a new Wolverine. Will Logan return from his thought-to-be-fatal adamantium prison? Alonso ain't telling, but it could be a possibility. "Wolverine will return to the Marvel Universe. Who is Wolverine? You’ll have to read and find out."

This initiative will pick up 8 months after the events of Secret Wars, and you can expect about 55-60 new titles, with #1 issues staggered throughout the fall over a period of three to four months. Be sure to let us know what you think abut all of this in the usual place.

I'm hoping all new spiderman just means they are bringing Gwen and Miles into the main universe. Because if they were to reintroduce Gwen into Pete's life... That might make up for Brand New Day

@monsterquad35 you ever read the ultimates line? Buscemi was their inspiration for Bruce Banner in those comics.

I can dig this. Spider-Gwen was a pleasant surprise, Miles Morales as Spider-Man in the main MCU is fresh, Jane as Thor has been very entertaining thus far as well. Sam as Cap seems okay although I'm not a big Captain America fan. I'm diggin' this, this all seems more promising than post convergence road warrior Not-So-Superman and Batbot. I may have to swap out some DC titles to make room for some new Marvel ones.

I'm hoping they keep Wolverine out of the books for awhile though, I'm tired of seeing him in every freaking Marvel X-Men book.

@Danbito One More Day and Brand New Day will never be forgiven, it's like the comic book fan's Alamo.

@Mrcool210 is she really? Has that been confirmed? Spider-Gwen in the main MCU would be pretty cool, although I'm a fan of the world they created for her as it is.

@mrcool210 I'm really hoping Peter and Gwen's history remains in tact in this new world. Because the idea of Gwen finally coming back in to Pete's life, with spider-powers would be pretty awesome especially since in her universe Peter Parker was the one who died. It would be an awesome story. A chance to pick back up on the greatest and most tragic love story in the history of comics, and being able to throw in the added dimension of both character's guilt of not being able to save the other in their respective worlds.

I think it's a bummer that they didn't bring over Ultimate Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, she was a great character. Wasted potential there.

bring it on. Real change in comics is rare. Plus I love the idea of a world where Peter and Miles are friends/mentor/partners, Spider-Gwen will be around (possibly) and Steve Rogers takes over for Nick Fury. Interested in yet another new Hulk (or incarnation of him) and Wolverine I'm guessing is Sabretooth or X-23. Who knows.

Well, I have an idea for a comic run for Marvel… How do I get to pitch it to Marvel?
Anyone got actual connects? I would say my idea but I think the studios actually read some threads for feedback and ideas. Call me paranoid.
lsc2222
lsc2222 - 6/4/2015, 6:33 AM
@Bulldawg2014 I actually agree with that statement. The Peter/Gwen relationship was/is the most tragic relationship in comics history, I refuse to acknowledge that Norman Osborn/Gwen Stacy nonsense. The Peter/Gwen dynamic has always been interesting and I think his relationship with MJ was better for it. Gwen with spider powers in the main MCU would make it even more interesting.
