COMICS: Expect A Brand New SPIDER-MAN, HULK, & More Post SECRET WARS
Marvel is still adamant that this upcoming All-New, All-Different initiative is not a full reboot, but we now know that after Secret Wars all titles will revert back to issue #1, and we can expect new characters to take up the mantles of Spider-Man, Wolverine and The Hulk. More past the jump...
We finally have some details on what to expect from Marvel's All-New, All-Different post Secret Wars plans. According to Mashable, the publisher's new initiative will "see all of its comic books revert back to No. 1s, introduce all-new superheroes and significantly alter others, including a new Spider-Man, a new Hulk and new team-ups never before imagined at the House of Ideas."
Because this won't actually erase the continuity established during the years leading up to Secret Wars, it's being dubbed a "reset" rather than a reboot, but it's very clear we are looking at some massive alterations to the Marvel Comics Universe on the horizon. Here's what Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso had to say.
""We've been planning it for years. We realized that ['Secret Wars'] would be a game-changing moment that would allow us to create a big white canvas. It’s an unprecedented chance for us to tell new stories across all titles with new No. 1s. There’s no red sky, there’s no icecaps, but there will be new places on the map, there will be new characters that were just too cool to not bring back from 'Secret Wars.' There are new teams that are necessary to deal with new threats. We chose all of our creators to come in with a hook — a big thing has happened that changes the status quo of the character."
Only recently we saw new characters take up the mantles of Thor and Captain America, and though it sounds like Jane Foster and Sam Wilson will remain in those roles, there'll be new faces beneath Spidey's mask and the Green Goliath's raging visage. "The all-new Hulk ... this character is certain to cause debate," continued Alonso. "The same people who went crazy with female Thor will have a field day with this one." The new Wall Crawler is also bound to stir up some controversy, though Alonso hints that Peter Parker will still be around too. Plus, we'll also be getting a new Wolverine. Will Logan return from his thought-to-be-fatal adamantium prison? Alonso ain't telling, but it could be a possibility. "Wolverine will return to the Marvel Universe. Who is Wolverine? You’ll have to read and find out."
This initiative will pick up 8 months after the events of Secret Wars, and you can expect about 55-60 new titles, with #1 issues staggered throughout the fall over a period of three to four months. Be sure to let us know what you think abut all of this in the usual place.
