COMICS: First Look At The Cover To SECRET WARS #1

Movie footage isn't all that aired last night during ABC's Marvel: 75 Years from Pulp to Pop special, as Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso shared our first glimpse of next Summer's Secret Wars event. It's not the best quality, but see Esad Ribic's cover art after the jump.

Apparently this is the variant cover to the first issue of the new Secret Wars. It's a bit blurry, but you'll be able to make out quite a few of the Marvel heroes and villains here. In addition to the likes of Thor, Cyclops, Black Panther, Doctor Doom and Thanos, we have both the 616 and Ultimate versions of characters such as Reed Richards and Spider-Man. Marvel have been releasing various teasers which revisit past events, and yesterday we had a blank cover, simply stating "Everything Ends" in Spring 2015. Does this indicate some type of reboot/clean sweep leading into Secret Wars? The plan hasn't been revealed yet, but we do know this massive event written by Jonathan Hickman with artwork by Esad Ribic is being set up to be one of the biggest in the publisher's history.

Genius move on Marvel's part rehashing these old events like Secret Wars and Armor Wars. They can put all the original collections up for sale in their digital store for the people who want to relive them.

WHOA!

@ Rabid - My thoughts exactly. Plus they're getting people automatically interested cause haters are immediately drawn to see what is going to be done with their classic stories, and whining about change, while Marvel is telling new twists to the stories. Hopefully they're at least good enough to stand along side the originals.

I don't have enough clue to guess what starts a Secret War, but i've had it in my head for a while that the Negative Zone is the only place in reality which is safe from the incursions. If Franklin has to make a new Earth and watch Galactus die, that's a great place to do it.

Also, if we need a new Beyonder (the current one being either dead or a fake), let it be Richard Ryder merged with a Cosmic Cube.

I don't know what Marvel is doing, but unless it is a clean sweep of management and editorial, I think any potential Marvel Comics reboot is gonna be a pile of Dogcrap. I'll even be bold to say it will be worse than New 52, possibly Heroes Reborn bad.

What how are Cyclops and Mr Fantastic on the cover I thought there was a huge conspiracy that Marvel was trying to get rid of all the Fox owned characters. I mean the Fantastic Four comics having continuously low sales had nothing to do with them being cancelled it was all part of some conspiracy.

What a crap cover…. NOT because of the art… but because these characters aren't appealing…. seriously, compare this to the ORIGINAL cover and tell be which one would attract the fans plus attract the general audience/potential new readers??

I'm so anxious to find out how Ultimate FF's cliffhanger ended. Did Sue lobotomize Reed? Did she rape him? Her universe doesn't stand a chance unless she births Franklin.

"i applaud them for not putting iron man's played-out ass front and center"

Coming from a Bat fan, this comment is extremely laughable. Marvel doesn't have to rely on the same 2 characters to sell ALL of their comics

Doom front and center?

Interesting.

No Doctor Strange on that cover...

Did Marvel do something ballsy and make DOOM the new Sorcerer Supreme?

Because if they did....

Admit it: you'd BUY that book in a heartbeat....

Spider-Man, Thor, Fantastic Four, Dr. Doom, Inhumans, Cyclops, Namor, Star-Lord, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and THANOS

Hey, at least they don't reboot the universe just to tell the same storylines hoping to get more readers.

Let's see the competition have an Event without the "Big 2". Won't, and can't happen.
