COMICS: Frank Castle Seemingly Kills [SPOILER] In The Pages Of Matthew Rosenberg's PUNISHER #1

The first issue of Matthew Rosenberg's new Punisher series hit shelves today, and we have major SPOILERS for the opening chapter as Frank Castle takes out yet another well-known Marvel Comics villain...

If there's one thing Frank Castle enjoys, it's killing bad guys. Though he usually settles for low-level street thugs and mob bosses, from time to time he'll set his sights on a well-known Marvel supervillain, and this time it's Iron Man's greatest adversary, The Mandarin.

In the pages of Matthew Rosenberg's Punisher #1, we find out that Baron Zemo and the Mandarin have teamed up with Roxxon in an attempt to have the nation of Bagalia recognised by the United Nations, with Zemo as its official leader and Mandarin as Bagalia’s delegate to the U.N.

However, a certain ultra-violent vigilante shows up during Mandarin's speech and cuts it short with a "magic bullet" to the head.

Of course, very few main characters stay dead in comics so there's every chance The Mandarin will return at some point. But for now, it certainly looks like Castle has succeeded in taking out yet another major Marvel villain.

It blows my mind that Marvel still have a bigger market share than DC when it comes to comics. They're comics suck these days compared to DC. I guess it's all about brand recognition.

*their comics suck

It goes to show that you can still sell shitty comics if you make good movies and TV shows.

@Nightwing1015 - Maybe a large majority still enjoy the comics and only a small minority are actually vocal about their distaste?

@smgmayhem - Maybe. But usually the people on this website are pretty vocal about their dislike of current Marvel comics. So I was just going off that.

@Nightwing1015 - I disagree. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving a bunch of DC books (Metal -> JL/Supersons/JLD/Action) but Marvel still have a bunch of great books. ASM so far is really good, 2-in-1 is amazing and the first issue of F4 looks like it'll build off of it really well, Punisher (havent read this issue/war-machine frank is what im referring to) was really good, as well as other books like the Sentry. Those are my opinions, books I've heard great things about are Soules Daredevil, Old Man Logan, Doctor Strange, Cosmic Ghost Rider, and Surprisingly Cates Venom which I hear is the best thing coming out of marvel. You should give some of these a shot!

@AbidNaga - Yeah, I've been meaning to check out the new Punisher and Spider-Man series (now that Slott has left). I heard good things about the first issue anyway.

Wait does he kill him? Or does he just get the bullet really close to Mandarins eye. That panel is totally ambiguous.

Punisher would have aimed for the head unlike some people who's name rhymes with door.

I was looking at this earlier on comixology. I can't believe they restarted the Punisher series again. This is the fourth time in the past few years. At least he's not wearing the War Machine armor anymore.

@blackandyellow - isn't he also in a completely separate series called Cosmic Ghost Rider right now?

Do both just happen to coexist?

@ftf530 - No clue, I haven't been following that one. The editorial staff gave up on continuity a long time ago.

@blackandyellow - hahaha okay

I just can't justify the money to keep up with weekly anything anymore, and nothing in the main continuity has really jumped at me for a few years now.

Is that Tony Stark telling him to move out of the way? If I was Tony Stark, I'd be saying, "Hey Mandarin... lean forward a little."

Mandarin has died a few times and always returns. I like it when Frank takes out super threats, but everyone he killed during Civil War returned to life
