Yesterday, it was revealed that Marvel is looking for a "fresh start" in 2018 by overhauling its titles and launching another wave of #1s. That latter point was met with horror by fans sick and tired of endless relaunches but the belief is that after so many of those, fans, casual readers, and retailers were all left confused when comics jumped up from a number like #30 to #695 in the course of a single month.
There are, however, plenty of people who have welcomed this return but new #1 are on the way and that's bound to upset some. "Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be rolling out new beginnings for a few of our key franchises — new creative teams, new starting points, new storylines — all the big stuff that we’ve been building towards since Marvel Legacy began," Senior VP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort explains. However, there is a silver lining which goes some way in clearing things up.
Despite reports that the Legacy numbering is about to vanish, he added that, "we’ll be maintaining the classic Legacy issue counts as dual numbering on these titles as well." That definitely feels like a happy medium but considering the fact that many found fault with Marvel's maths when it came to the "original" numbering of many Legacy titles last year, two of them on covers might make things worse.
