this is nothing new. There has always been competitive arena like ideas LONG before the Hunger Games. This is trying to be Secret Wars but slightly less interesting or engaging.

It's a nod to the Japanese film Battle Royale. Not Hunger Games. We've seen the promo art where the Logo resembles that or BR.

So this is like Marvel's take on Battle Royale?

Darkhawk is an awesome character. That's very cool he's in this.

@niceguyeddie You're right. Hunger Games is much less violent and tame compared to Battle Royale. This is more akin to the latter.

Don't know why some of you guys are getting so worked up over this book. Murderworld has been around since 1978. Thats before battle royal or hunger games was even written on paper yet. Hopeless and johnson did a "homage" cover to both and lord of the flies as well.

Anyways, like I said before, this looks awesome. I'll give the first issue a try. Glad to know darkhawk is back, I just hope he isn't killed off.

I hate how everyone seems to think that Battle Royale came up with this idea. The idea of men hunting each other has been around for years.

For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Most_Dangerous_Game

"The Most Dangerous Game". Story of a hunter who gets trapped on a island with a eccentric millionaire who forces the main character run for his life while he hunts him.

Same basic premise from 1924.

@TrueBlue

We can't know for certain that Hunger Games "copies" Battle Royale. Alot of elements of the two films are very similar. You can probably guess battle royale borrows a little bit from Lord of the flies. However, this series is obviously a homage to BR. again the Avengers Arena logo is a copy of the BR logo.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LAME. I HATE marvel for cancelling the Avengers Academy book. Now, what do they do? Take it one step further and kill off Marvel's so called renegade "Teen Titans" that I've come to love over the run of the series. Marvel is stupid, so is this stupid decision to kill them all off!

@niceguyeddie

I'm not complaining about ideas being taken from other sources. It happens all the time. It's okay for a writer to be influenced by another work, if he takes it and makes it his own.

I get annoyed that people seem to think this idea comes from ONE source and use it as a excuse to bash the series before even reading it. Like I said this is an idea. Hell, we seen it in comics before. Villain kidnaps heroes.

"Mua ha aha! You must fight to the death if you want to escape!"

Heroes: "Oh no, what will we do!!?"
