COMICS: Marvel Cancels Spider-Man 2099 But Announces SECRET WARS 2099
Miguel O'Hara is done swinging solo as Peter David and Will Sliney's Spider-Man 2099 comes to a close...but the creative team will remain together to launch Secret Wars 2099 in May.
The cancelation of Spider-Man 2099 has just been announced by IGN along with the reveal of a new series, SECRET WARS 2099. The new series will feature the debut of the Avengers of 2099. According to writer Peter David The Avengers will be a corporate team working for Alchemax.
"They’re all going to be working for Alchemax, in that respect it’s almost similar to my recent 'X-Factor,' except Alchemax is more or less running the United States in 2099."
Also it should be noted that unlike the rest of the Secret Wars tie-ins, this book has not been officially described as a limited or ongoing series. Writer Peter David even says that as far as he is concerned "the series will run as long as Marvel and the readers want me to write it,"
David also says that despite having Secret Wars in the title the series will not have a huge impact on the event and vice versa.
"It’s set on Battleworld the way the others are, but honestly, it doesn’t tie into Secret Wars beyond that, the events of Secret Wars proper might be mentioned in passing somewhere, but 2099 is definitely its own story."
The official solicit can be found below as well as the source, which features all that Peter David had to say about the new series.
