COMICS: Marvel Releases New Details Regarding 'DEAD NO MORE'

Marvel has revealed new details regarding their 'Dead No More' teaser. Original Captain America Steve Rogers is returning and assuming his role as Marvel's patriotic shield-slinger but the cryptic teaser apparently refers to multiple characters, not just the Sentinel of Liberty.

Marvel Comics recently released a teaser image that simply read "Dead No More", prompting much speculation among the internet's comic book community.  Is it Uncle Ben coming back? Ben Reilly? Richard Rider? The Watcher? Since then, Marvel has confirmed that the character coming back is Steve Rogers aka Captain America.  However, they've also confirmed that the "Dead No More" teaser isn't just referring to a single character, it's referring to multiple.  Marvel teased, "If you got a chance to bring back someone who died, would you? And how will CLASSIFIED deal when ones they thought long dead once again walk the earth? Find out on Free Comic Book Day!"

Free Comic Book Day
is May 7th.  Be sure to visit your local comic book shop as they'll be giving away free comics all day and selling issues and TPBs at significantly reduced prices.

@ManCalledSting

Agreed man, I feel the same way. Basically half of the Marvel roster is the Walking Dead.

Quesada gave us One More Day. The man should never write again. Same for Dan Slott.

I think it's either going to be Steve seeing Peggy alive again for a short period of time OR an event where multiple heroes see dead characters from their past for short periods of time. Like Spidey and Uncle Ben or Carol and Mar-Vell.

DC's already done it like five times, Marvel should just get it over with.

@isc2222 Agreed. Joe Quesada needs to stay away from comics. Hopefully whenever Dan Slott collapses and dies and someone else takes over writing Spider-Man, we might finally get One More Day reversed.

@Isc2222 - You do realize that Joe Quesada is an ARTIST, right? J. Michael Straczynski wrote One More Day under Quesada's editorial reign!

@JonF - Quesada is indeed an artist, but he also writes as well. Or he tries to. And he had a hand in One More Day as a writer, he did ASM #545.

@ALmazing - They've both done it way too often. Deaths used to last years if not longer in some cases, nowadays you can count down six months and a character's back. Or just look at the movie release date calender and you can time a character's return to their next film release. It's gotten old, unoriginal, and tired. They should both be able to come up with better story ideas.

I'm on the fence about CW2. I mean, how many times can these guys fight each other? At Marvel the good guys spend more time fighting each other instead of the villains...

Here's what I think will happen:
Sonmething will bring back some dead heroes and villains. Everyone rejoices, except you know, the people who know better (Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, etc) The returned slowly start becoming different until they are just corrupted twisted versions (except one or a few) and they have to get put down again.

"Avengers Disassembled" was where I left Marvel, and from my point of view it was really when the company completely shifted from building new things to simply making a spectacle of tearing down anything they had. Endless events where characters are destroyed only to come back in a year or two with less meaning as the Marvel Universe gradually becomes more and more homogenous. Long running relationship? Kill it. Life long loyalties? End 'em. Make everyone an Avenger, have everyone hang out and quip together. Stop making new villains, just have the heroes fight each other. Ugh.

I'm sure that there are some bright spots in all of that, but over the last decade or more the MU has definitely lost more than it has gained, IMO.

It's one of the many reasons I stopped buying the single issues (both DC and Marvel).
– Characters die and return with alarming frequency
– All encompassing, company-wide, reboot, crossover "epics" (again with the alarming frequency).
– Costume alterations done to accommodate the films (weather that film is out now or three years from now).

@lsc2222

YES! And that's the other thing . . .
– Way too many hero vs hero stories/epics/ events.

Good point Isc.
