During Marvel's upcoming comic event, Secret Wars, writer Kieron Gillen will be leading a new series titled, SIEGE. He discussed the creative process saying he "just started extrapolating from what was only a relatively small detail of the world-building, and thinking all the fun you could have with it," the writer also describes the series by saying, "the easiest way to sum it up is if the Night’s Watch [from ‘Game of Thrones’] had an even more impossible task, and were recruited from across the entire marvel Multiverse."

The series will follow a ragtag team on Battleworld with the mission of defending the Shield barrier from the evils that lay south of the barrier, and will be, as Gillen put it, "spiritual sequel" to his S.W.O.R.D. series. The title will include characters such as S.W.O.R.D.'s Abigail Brand, Miss America Chavez, Kate Bishop, Leah from Journey Into Mystery, Illyana Rasputin, and a group of Baron Sinister clones named "The Endless Summer."

What's the point of secret wars? Is it leading to an eventual reboot

@TheEpicJuicebox sorta: it's to basically fix all the mistakes in the Marvel multiverse: IE how the universe was made (the celestials? The infinity stones? The one above all? Who knows!), and it's to kind of throw all these what if and possible futures together, making us question which future is our own, ending with the main 616 universe being sprinkled with hundreds of different ideas and characters from the multiverse, IE miles morales.

Think of it like this: All father Thor has been accidentally dropping hints to Thor's future for ages now ("have you fought with a squadron of hundreds of versions of you?" "What" "nothing disregard what I said"). Also, Iron man has a brother named Anton and is turning evil like Iron Man 2020, Cap no longer has the Shield like dozens of stories, and Hulk is separated from Bruce, is going bald, and growing a beard like Maestro... And spiderman is getting his daughter back like MC2

you see what I'm getting at?

@WinterOstritch so is it going to end up with 616 containing all of the winners of secret wars and then Marvel will use that new 616 for their comics from then on?

I'm very Interested in this. Is this the first time Marvel done something like this, if so I don't remember it? I was always a X-Men and Batman guy, I don't pay attention to the big events from both companies.

@TheEpicJuicebox pretty much :P think Crisis on Infinte Earths and how tons of heroes just assimilated to New Earth, like the Justice Society
