These days, every huge crossover event in comic books is a massive world or universe threatening event that's become a bit ridiculous when you look at their regularity. It seems The Avengers can't make it to the next Tuesday without some cosmic entity or malevolent deity revealing plans to destroy, control or remake the world. Truthfully, its the little side stories that get me excited the most these days, stories like Infinity: The Heist. Writer Frank Tieri has revealed that he and artist Al Barrionuevo are working on a four issue miniseries offshoot of Infinity that's, "a villain piece" along the same lines as 'Reservoir Dogs', 'Ocean's Eleven', or 'The Usual Suspects.' Specifically, an Iron Man super-villain team consisting of Spymaster, Blizzard, Unicorn, Whiplash, Firebrand, Titanium Man and Whirlwind forms while The Avengers and Mighty Avengers are busy countering the intergalactic threat of The Builders and Thanos. Their goal is to pull of the ultimate, Ocean's Eleven -esque heist on Stark Industries while Iron Man is out in space. I should probably mention here that I have daydreamed of pitching a similar concept to Marvel but it stars Gambit, Black Cat and a few others teaming up to pull a job on Doctor Doom (call me Alonso). Said Tieri on the plot, "Spymaster figures with Iron Man’s eyes elsewhere on Thanos and space and whatnot, now’s the chance to make off with something that’s worth more than a thousand bank jobs — and that’s Tony Stark’s bag of goodies. What’s he planning to do with Tony’s armors and tech when/if he gets his grubby hands on them? Again, that’s part of the surprise."
Infinity: The Heist, will be released this September.
