COMICS SPOILER: A Major Marvel Death In SQUADRON SUPREME #1
Marvel and writer James Robinson have come right out and spoiled a massive death from the first issue of Squadron Supreme, which will be hitting shelves this December. If you've been following the events of Secret Wars, you might well guess which "hero" goes down...
After pretty much transitioning from anti-hero to full-on villain, Namor is sent to the big fish pond in the sky courtesy of Hyperion in the pages of Squadron Supreme #1. The Sub Mariner was responsible for the destruction of Doctor Spectrum's reality during Secret Wars, so in this first issue the team head to Atlantis to make him pay... and pay he does, dearly. Here's a preview and some quotes from James Robinson on the decision to kill-off this character, courtesy of Comicbook.com.
It was a combination of a couple of things. One, it speaks of Squadron Supreme's mission statement. Which is that they really are this hard-line group that will not put up with anything or anybody who will detract work. And also, it was kind based on the fact that Namor destroyed Doctor Spectrum's world. And was basically in the last few years Namor has crossed the line from an anti-hero to something a little bit darker. I mean we’ve seen absolutely no remorse whatsoever from him lately.
Of course, death is never really death in comic books - but this one might just stick for quite a while. Check out the full interview with Robinson at the link below.
