COMICS: Will We Be Be Getting A Female WOLVERINE At Some Point?

COMICS: Will We Be Be Getting A Female WOLVERINE At Some Point?

Well, technically she already is the female version of Wolverine! But word is that following the events of Death Of Wolverine and Axis, X-23 is going to be taking up Logan's mantle...that is, after someone else has held it for a while first.

Yesterday, Bleeding Cool posted a speculative article on Sabertooth taking over as Wolverine after Logan kicks the bucket. Their assumption was based on the below image from Avengers & X-Men: Axis #9, which carries the following solicitation: "An old foe must claim the mantle of his greatest enemy to save the lives of all he cares for!"

That certainly looks like ol' Victor Creed in Logan's duds, and according to the site's follow up article, it definitely is. They say a source has reached out and confirmed that Sabertooth will indeed be the new Wolverine...at least for a while. Apparently the plan is for Creed to carry the mantle for only 6 months, at which point Logan's clone X-23 (who can currently be seen in the pages of All-New X-Men) will take over. So, it seems like we'll have a female Wolverine to go along with the new female Thor. None of this has been officially confirmed, but what do you guys make of it?

A female Wolverine? As in, a woman who will probably cut your balls off in a feral rage?

I'd like to introduce you to my ex.

Stop changing characters, just create new ones and use the ones you have better!

If they would stick to their guns this might be interesting, but Logan will be back before X-Men: Apocalypse, I guarantee it. Just like Thor will be Thor again by the time Thor 3 is out, and Steve will be Captain America again by the time Cap 3 comes out. I'll never get over them just giving the title of Cap back to Steve, neither Batman back to Bruce.

Logan will be missed, but X-23 will make a pretty interesting WOLVERINE until he returns. :)

I liked Creed in Age of Apocalypse, and his relationship with Blink. In this reality though, I can't see Creed as a hero.

So sex change seems to be word of the day in Marvel comics. Thor has become a woman, X-23 will be taking Wolverine-title, wouldn't be surprised if Peter Parker is to lose his powers so that the new gal, Silk, could take over Spidey-comics.

i just cant get into omics and this is the reason why. Story lines like the death of wolverine are just stupid bc he'll be back, a lot of it seems pointless. if theres a GOOD story arc in comics let me know, preferably something non alien invasion and somthing that changed everything

I hate all this "mantle swapping". Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man... okay, they are icons symbolized by their equipment. Wolverine, though?! Wolverine is just Wolverine, bub. Ain't no symbolism to it.

Also, I want X-23 to finally have a decent superhero name. Something that isn't... you know, suck.

As much as I like X-23 (still mad they're calling her that) she deserves a name of her own. I always liked Talon or Raptor, or something like that.

I actually like the idea of Sabretooth taking the mantle, even for a little while. And isn't Dekken supposed to be up for it too?

@Doopie

OF COURSE!
(stoooopid me)

First female "Thor," and now a substitute Wolverine. I see now that - corporate-wise - the name "Wolverine" must continue. Look at all the Captain Marvels we've had and will always have.
But story wise . . . WHY in the world would ANYONE subject themselves to the crapstorm that follows that name? Why wouldn't Sabertooth just stay "Sabertooth" and then take over whatever team/teacher responsibilities he felt he could handle? Did Magneto adopt the name "Professor X" when he took over for Charles on any of the many countless times Charles died or disappeared?

Shallow . . .

So.. you're saying that there's a restraining order against me from a non-existent ex? Makes sense.

If you've still got two brain cells left to rub together, I'd suggest using them to log off.

You are sooooo right. I have stopped buying floppies altogether. Oh sure, once in awhile I wander into a comic store and pick something up that grabs my attention. But now I just wait for the trades to come out, IF the reviewers I've come to trust alert me to something well done.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH MARVEL ?????

Why can't people stay who they are, in 616 ?
Does anyone here want to become Babe Ruth, and drop their own identity ?
X-23 is Laura Kinney. Sabretooth is Victor Creed. And Wolverine is JAMES/LOGAN HOWLETT.

Yeah, I really dig the character. I loved Innocence Lost and Target x, and the Yost/Kyle run was fantastic. Probably one of my favourites.

Sabretooth is the new Wolverine? - Oh just stop!.... ridiculous!, this is why I stopped reading these comics.

The possibility of a woman being the new Wolverine? - Don't be silly, wouldn't her claws scratch up the sink?
