FANTASTIC FOUR: Doctor Doom Brings Marvel's First Family To Their Knees In First Look At Issue #700

Marvel Comics has released a first look at this May's Fantastic Four #700, and with Doctor Doom returning to take aim at Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny, you'd best believe the anniversary issue will be huge...

This May, Ryan North and Iban Coello will celebrate 700 awe-inspiring issues of Fantastic Four with a giant-sized throwdown against the team's most iconic archnemesis: Doctor Doom!

Making his first appearance in North and Coello's run, Doom will attempt to use his unmatched expertise to fix the fatal misstep that kicked off the Fantastic Four's new era. Still haunting the team and causing a dramatic rift between Marvel's first family, readers are only just starting to put the pieces of the mystery together.

After it's fully revealed later this month in Fantastic Four #4, the team will be reunited at last just in time for Doom to rock their world once more. The team's greatest villain will embark on an epic journey across space and time to reverse the damage that his most bitter foes have unleashed on the Marvel Universe. Will he be able to succeed where Reed Richards failed? Or will his meddling make matters far, far worse?

The oversized spectacular will also see the Fantastic Four reach their new base of operations - not knowing that their greatest threat has made it there first. As their knowledge of "Language Itself" begins to melt from their minds, the Four are in disarray as their existence hangs in the balance...and the greatest villain of all time finally seals their Doom.

"I feel privileged to be writing the Fantastic Four at any time, honestly, but getting to have a big milestone issue happen on my watch is certainly lucky - and it's an opportunity I didn't want to waste," North says. "A big anniversary issue like this demands a similarly big story, something meaningful, impactful, and memorable."

"And given that it's a supersized issue with more room to play, everything aligned to do a story with the Fantastic Four's most meaningful, impactful, memorable, and supersized villain: Doctor Doom. Doom demands nothing less than the biggest issue of the year being dedicated to him, and I dare not defy Doom."

"It's a big twisty story that brings the Fantastic Four to their new home and views what's happened to both families over the past year in a new light," the writer concludes. "The Fantastic Four are down, but not out, and Doom senses an opportunity..."

Since launching their Fantastic Four run last year, North and Coello have kept readers on the edge of their seats with world-class sci-fi storytelling that only Marvel's First Family can deliver. You can check out Alex Ross' latest breathtaking cover below, and Fantastic Four #700 will arrive in comic book stores on May 17.

That mask might look goofy in live-action, but that's exactly what I want it to look like. If Kang can get a purple face, then Doom can get a mask like this

@bkmeijer1 - This was an almost perfect translation to live-action, looks wise. I think he'll be alright in the MCU

@comicfan100 - it's indeed near perfect. The mouthpart always looked off to me though

Marvels greatest Villain,Disney Marvel better do the character justice when he is finally on screen.

@marvel72 - Agreed. I've always thought of Doom as suave and persuasive but also ruthless and terrifying. Like Grigori Rasputin mixed with Jordan Belfort.

I also miss original numbering, instead of going back to number 1 for like 5 volumes just have 1 volume and keep the numbering going.

Doom has always been the best villain in Marvel comics.

Who would be a great evil Doom? Christopher Waltz or Jackie Earl Haley?

Fan casting Doom is gonna be fun!

@DocSpock - All the guys you mentioned are way too small for Doom. He needs to be tall and imposing

@comicfan100 -

Who would you pick?

Well,
Since Hafthor Bjornsson (who played 'The Mountain' aka Gregor Clegane) has lost weight, he has the physique for an intimidating Doom.

Dub Jeremy Irons as Doom's voice actor (modulate his voice, similar to Ultron, and maybe risk coaching him to speak in an accent... and you are starting to create a character)

^rough brainstorm, but you guys get the idea 💡 of how they COULD approach Doom's portrayal

You also bring on a body movement coach and you can keep going with MoCap and Animatronics

The tools are there and surely Disney's budget

@Scripturepoetic -

Since Doom would underneath a mask; CGI, MoCap, and multiple stunt doubles are options for portraying Doom's physicality

Honestly,
Getting someone theatrical and grandiose, who can portray menace and intimidation would be ideal. Hugo Weaving could still be a candidate, since Doom's role wouldn't require hours of make-up and would be reminiscent of his performance as 'V' in "V for Vendetta"

As far as stunts, you could have someone like Ray Park

LOTS of options and THESE are just tapping obvious candidates

The world 🌎 wide talent pool is just waiting for the next visionary to craft the next Hannibal Lecter-esque villainous icon

@Scripturepoetic -

They can also go experimental and modulate Hugo Weaving, if he were cast, and audio deepfake his voice, BUT if they were going to alter someone's voice that drastically, they would likely cast a talented unknown that speaks in a menacing, intelligible accented voice

Someone articulate, that could deliver Shakespearean soliloquys with a sense of dread, like David Morissey, would be delightful 😁

Jeremy Irons as Doom's voice actor with tweaks and modulations would be 🐍 serpentine:

Very interesting.

I need to think on this. I'm too wasted to dig in on this now, but I will. I love it when people pose mind expanding material.

Hmmmm. Very intriguing.

@Scripturepoetic -

Actually,

Michael Ironside would be ironically PERFECT as MCU's live-action Doom (channeling dread and menace):

@DocSpock -

I still feel that someone physically sizeable and intimidating (like the aforementioned Hafthor Bjornsson should portray Doom as a body double, BUT Doom's mask should be CGI'd like Ultron, so it can emote and the actor underneath should be intellectual and sinister.

If all you can see of the actor is their 👁️ eyes 👁️, then you could look to someone like Cillian Murphy:

Scripturepoetic
Scripturepoetic - 2/5/2023, 7:45 AM
@DocSpock -

Cillian Murphy underneath Doom's mask wearing MoCap could really hit the mark, with a tweak of an accent resembling something Latverian 🤔 and his voice Audio Deepfaked to sound mechanical and dropping his voice to a lower register...

Have Doom's mask take inspiration from Cameron's latest $$💵💵moneymaking💵💵$$ Na'Vi entry and you're getting closer to the Sorcerer Cyborg that we wish they would put to screen
Scripturepoetic
Scripturepoetic - 2/5/2023, 7:59 AM
@DocSpock -

Tim Curry would have been a PHENOMENAL Doctor Doom, BUT Cillian Murphy could encapsulate Doom's tragedy, menace, and intellect

Those are a lot of great suggestions. Of that bunch, I like Jeremy Irons the best.

One other candidate, who is no stranger at acting behind a mask 🎭, would be Liam Neeson (Darkman); but most likely since Doom's mask will be MoCapped, the actor's facial performance will come through (which is my main criticism with the stationary helmet Sam Raimi committed to, with Green Goblin [which also hid Dafoe's facial performance when helmeted])

I agree. Though Defoe was great in the role, that mask was pretty Halloween costume bad.

Liam would be great too.
