Green Goblin Returns - And So Does Gwen Stacy?! - In June's SPIDER-MAN Solicits From Marvel Comics

It looks like Marvel has a huge summer planned for Spidey as the Green Goblin will make his long-awaited return in Amazing Spider-Man #50 before Gwen Stacy rises from the dead in Spectacular Spider-Men!

This June, Marvel Comics looks set to make some major changes to Spider-Man's corner of the Marvel Universe in the pages of both Amazing Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Men. The former will celebrate its 50th issue with Zeb Wells (Deadpool & Wolverine) as writer, and it's time for Green Goblin to make his return.

The stage was set for this some time ago, and while it sounds like there's more to Norman Osborn's return to evil than meets the eye, we're sure many of you will be hoping this has the makings of the next great Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin story.

Talking of the Goblin, it was decades ago that he murdered Gwen Stacy; well, over in Spectacular Spider-Men (Peter Parker and Miles Morales' first ongoing team-up series), it looks like Gwen has somehow returned from the dead.

The two wall-crawlers will be battling Jackal so we're guessing clones are involved; however, with it clear Marvel Comics has no plans to revisit Peter's romance with Mary Jane Watson, perhaps now is the right time to give Gwen a second chance at life?

That would undoubtedly divide opinion, but she is Spidey's first true love and that cover is bound to generate speculation in the build-up to the launch of the new series from the creator of the hit Spectacular Spider-Man animated series.

Check out the full solicitation details for both issues below.

Can they bring THE marriage back instead of these 3 gimmicks that they have kept in rotation for the past several years?
supermanrex

@rebellion - the marriage is back and kids in ultimate spiderman by hickman. its good shit.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 2/22/2024, 5:28 PM
@supermanrex - Maybe, but it's not the developed Spidey gaining these things. It's a new Peter who already has those things and is now becoming Spider-Man.

@dagenspear - exactly

@dagenspear - well we cant get everything we want. sometimes you just enjoy the product you are giving as is or move on. comics are cyclical. at some point they will bring them back to together in 616. maybe sooner than later since this is going through the roof with sales in the ultimate universe. they already said that this universe will be used to try out shit and see how people react.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 2/23/2024, 2:35 PM
@supermanrex - Not getting everything we want is different than getting it and it being needlessly taken away because people in charge of it wanted Spidey to be hip and young and playin the field and wrote it that way for no actual character based or really story reason.

Or... people could still stay engaged and criticize the cheap and weak writing tactics involved in the product.

They absolutely should bring back Gwen Stacey. She is better for Peter than Mary Jane Watson.

The RT score for Dune 2 has actually gone up! Did not expect that!

@KennKathleen - He seems a strange choice for Spider-Man,he did Hulk and Red Hulk and that fitted with his art style.

@marvel72 - it was a stamp to the timeline. The above pic made me look for the details and posture of both characters. It's an interesting image. Made me think of the Humberto Ramirez Spider-Man days...

Marvel can't get enough of tormenting Spider-Man.

They won't bring back the marriage between Peter and MJ because now there is Ultimate Spider-man to cover that (long awaited) ground and it seems like that series is doing a fantastic job with it.

It's best to have the two universes focus on very different approachs to the concept of Spider-man.

Now, to be honest, I have stopped reading The Amazing Spider-man for years now (for very obvious reasons) and I'm not planning to take it back. I'll try my hand with the new Ultimate Spider-man as soon as it is published in my country, it's more or less the answer to many of the problems and criticisms that I had with Amazing for more than a decade now and I'm loving everything I've seen about it so far.

Is this the Gwen who hooked up with Norman Osborn? I hope so.

That was EPIC storytelling. 🤣

What a [frick]ing joke the entire comic genre is - movies/TV/comics - what the actual [frick] happened?

At least I have the Bronze Age to keep me warm.

When the only ones in comics with green hair were The Hulk and the Joker and not the GenderFluid Bullpen of 'Creatives'
dagenspear
dagenspear - 2/23/2024, 3:37 AM
@Batmangina - That's been retconned as implanted memories from what I heard, in recent years. That story also I don't think had anything to do with politics like that.

You seem like you want genderfluidness, considering you're bringing it up out of nowhere.

A lot of Marvel comics have been crap for a while.
Amazing Spiderman especially has been unreadable for years.

The Green Goblin will always be his archenemy, but Norman has been interesting the last time during Dark Reign.

Gwen Stacy has returned a few times now, it isn't interesting anymore
Spider-Gwen is another story.

I thik 600 or 700 was my last issue.

Calling something that hasn't been received yet an instant classic...
BeyondTheGrave
BeyondTheGrave - 2/24/2024, 5:46 AM
This run has been...awful; they trash Spidey at every turn, do anything they can to make him unlikable and the only thing it hurts is the sales of the comics, not the love for Peter Parkers Spider-Man.
