Ultimate Marvel is an imprint of comic books published by Marvel Comics, featuring reimagined and updated versions of the company's superhero characters, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four. The imprint was launched in 2000 with the publication of the series Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men. The characters have new origins, freeing them from the sometimes convoluted back-histories of the original versions. The universe has been designated as "Earth-1610"[1] within the Marvel Multiverse, which comprises an infinite number of alternate universes.

The Ultimate imprint as a whole was intended to attract and serve new readers beyond the existing Marvel fan base, although long-time fans have generally embraced the line.

Ultimate marvel was dope when it started, but I don't know, I just jumped back into the real marvel U. I'm not feeling these marvel movies either. thor was wack (although I' not a Thor fan, so it's understandable) and captain america was OOoooookay. Iron man and incredible hulk were dope because they were stand-alone movies and not just thrown together in anticipation of the avengers movie.

Just reread the first run of Ultimate Avengers. There isn't ONE likeable character in those books.

@Despero- Ultimate Iron Man was pretty good. It had good characterization, and if you were going to go with a young Tony Stark/upcoming teenage Iron Man, Card's way was the way to do it. Don't even start with Tony. Start with his pregnant mother getting attacked by an experimental monkey and Howard Stark becoming a single father.

This didn't actually happen in the comic but I love this cover.

He did get the idea of building the exosuit armor when he was very young and was working on it practically his whole life.

The Ultimate Universe wasn't too bad when it started but damn did it go down hill fast, to fast. There were a few interesting concepts in there but other then that, there was nothing. It was more story then action until they killed off Spidey.

I'm a big Ultimates collector and I'm actually re-reading them now. Having read more 616 recently it's been strange to see Cap being such a dick. It just give Marvel the chance to be controversial and break the boundaries that can't be done in the 616.

Ultimates 1 & 2 are some of my favourite books.
Ultimate Fantastic Four is pretty good
Ultimate X-Men was good in the beginning
Ultimate Spiderman was superb
...it's just a shame Ultimatum came along and ruined it all!

I loved smaller series like Ultimate Human, Iron Man, Secret and extinction. Some others were good but not as good as these.

The only decent thing done recently was Ultimate Thor. Everything from the artwork to the writing was great and the fact it SPOILER tied in with the Ultimates was genius!

With so many shite ones I've collected over the last year I'm just glad they a having a refresh. It got too over complicated, misguided, ridiculous at times and sporadic!

A lot of the reason they even started the Ultimate line was to make a more streamlined universe so that people could jump on board without having to know 40 years of backstory for every character. (aside from modernizing things of course)

But then they just kept introducing more and more stupid versions of characters, and doing more and more ridiculous stories, so now its just as convoluted as the 616 universe.

also, putting when Millar left and Jeph Loeb took things over is when the whole thing went to shit. Loeb hasn't done anything worth reading in a VERY long time.

I don't think Moore will have anything to do with Marvel. He feels as if he doesn't own it somebody will use it or alter it and destroy it.

Alan Moore would never work for another company that doesn't offer creators ownerships of their stories and creations. I can understand that, BUT Moore is a pretentious prick also. He's also one of the best comic writers to ever live, lol.

and Earth-X is the best alternate universe story ever told. Its a must read for any Marvel die hard Marvel fan that knows a lot of the history of the MU.

Its easily my favorite story of all time, and it answers all the questions you will ever have about the MU.

I can't stress enough, IF YOU LOVE THE MARVEL UNIVERSE, YOU MUST READ EARTH-X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@MrEko: True. It's ended up all over the place. Mass death. Mass vampires. The build up to 'Death Of Spiderman' was odd to say the least. Everything prior to Ultimates 3 was cohesive and refreshing. Everything from then on went off on it's own little tangent.

I'm hoping this refresh will breath life into the MUU

Gaiman was really good on 1602. Very masterfully done. Would like to see more 1602 stuff done by Gaiman. Not some other jerk.

@ evilolive

"I Love Marvel Universe...I can't recall that I ever even Heard of Earth-X, lol."

well then check it on, man! its an epic. its not cheesy in any way. its written very classy and serious.

its 30 years in the future and all the heroes you know of are either older, or dead. Cap, Iron Man, and Reed Richards are basically the only three heroes from back in the day that are still around and fighting the good fight.

The entire human race have evolved into mutants, so everyone has powers. The only person that is still completely human on the entire planet is Stark.

anyway, you get a good history lesson on how humans came to be on earth, you get to see a giant throw down between Galactus and a bunch of Celestials. You learn the real reason why Galactus only feeds on certain planets, and not others. Hydra are a bunch of body snatching bio-weapons that have taken control of tons of heroes like Falcon and She-Hulk. The world is on its last legs and starvation is a serious threat. Norman Osborne is President of the U.S....or whats left of it. its just...crazy.

The coolest thing about it is seeing where all the heroes are at in 30 years. some are really surprising.

anyway, as you can tell, i love me some Earth-X. Everyone should read it.

I'm looking forward to the "Ult Spiiderman" tv show. I loved "Spectacular" and think it was the best to date, but this is a whole new animal. I'm thinking it's basically the Ult Marvel team-up show wth Spidey!

as long as Mark Millar and Brian Bendis overseeing the Ultimate line, it'll always be cool..just keep Jeph Loeb as far away from it as possible.
