Hey, even people with superpowers need help from a private detective from time to time, right? That's the basic premise of Marvel's next Netflix series, A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Last week, Marvel announced Krysten Ritter had been cast in the title role. She is best known for playing Jesse Pinkman's neighbor/landlord/girlfriend 'Jane Margolis' in AMC's Breaking Bad and she also starred in the short-lived ABC television series Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23. While doing press for Tim Burton's Big Eyes, she chatted with Kate Erbland from Cosmopolitan about her new Marvel role.

Were you a comic book fan before you got the role of Jessica Jones?
I wasn't. It's so brand new! This is like my first interview. I wasn't, but I am now reading the Jessica Jones comics and devouring them. And [I'm] hooked. I don't think I've been so hooked on something since Serial. So now I feel that way about the Jessica Jones series. I can't wait. I mean, as soon as we're done today, that's what I am going to be doing. I'm really excited about Jessica Jones. It's so f**king cool. It's so cool. I can't wait to watch it.

Six years ago, Ritter consciously chose to pursue acting roles that allowed her to work with female directors and showrunners like Amy Heckerling, Jessica Goldberg, Leslye Headland and Nahnatchka Khan. For her new Marvel show, Ritter will be working with Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who is the Executive Producer/Showrunner. Ritter says, "It's a dream come true," to work with Rosenberg. "I'm a big champion for female directors and female showrunners, just f**king rad, strong women," Ritter gushed. "I'm happy to be in company with them, I'm happy to be in the trenches with them."
Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones - An all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015 following "Marvel's Daredevil." Krysten Ritter to star in Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones for Netflix. Ritter will play Jessica Jones, first introduced in writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos' classic ALIAS comic series. After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
