Yesterday marked Marvel's birthday, and to celebrate, Marvel Comics has shared details on eight new tentpole titles that they promise will shape the future of the Marvel Universe in a big way.

First up is Devil's Reign, an event title that will see all hell break loose in the Marvel Universe when The Kingpin finally declares an all-out war on superheroes. Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto's crossover finds Mayor Fisk outlawing all superheroes in New York and unleashing intel on all their dark secrets, while pitting Daredevil, Elektra, Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and many more against his Thunderbolt agents. When all is said and done, though, who will reign?

Avengers Forever pulls together archaeologist Tony Stark, a.k.a. the Invincible Ant-Man and Avengers from across the Multiverse to bring order to timelines where "hope" is a four-letter word. Jason Aaron and Aaron Kuder are in charge of this series, and Marvel Comics promises it will redefine the Avengers as the Multiverse’s Mightiest Heroes.

Timeless, meanwhile, will put the spotlight on Kang the Conqueror. When a threatening new timeline emerges, he must fight his way through the coming year to protect the main 616 timeline he’s worked centuries to solidify as his own. Jed MacKay, Kev Walker, Joe Bennett, Mark Bagley, and more set the stage for a new era of storytelling in 2022, proving that the Future is Timeless.

X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine promises to test "the best there is at what he does" before any mutant can survive to The Second Krakoan Age. Benjamin Percy, Joshua Cassara and Federico Vicentini tell two interlocked tales about what happens to Wolverine when "His Pasts Meet His Future."

Next is a new She-Hulk series from Rainbow Rowell and Rogê Antônio with a back-to-basics approach to Jennifer Walters as she tries to put her rage-filled days behind her and return to practising law in defence of the innocent. However, it's then that a friend from her past comes knocking with a mystery she can’t resist, and She-Hulk gets, well, "Back To Bashing."

Dan Slott is joined by Carlos Pacheco and Rachael Stott for Fantastic Four: Reckoning War, an epic saga over 15 years in the making. The original secret war of the Marvel Universe has been reignited and every living being in reality is in danger. Finally, we have Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Not much has been revealed about this one, but more details are expected to follow as we move into next year.

OT

The current Daredevil run is Waid/Bendis/Brubaker level

@Waddles - Putting Daredevil in prison has been gold. Having him actually atone for his actions has really unearthed just who he is at his core. It's a sad eventual fall from grace that can only happen with a character so wracked with guilt, who fights with themselves as much as crime.

@BlackBeltJones - YES! It’s been my favorite superhero book since the run began.

@DTor91 - same here. DD is my fave superhero and what's being done with him in this run is masterful.

Just glad She-Hulk is going back to her usual self.

I like the synopsis of Timeless. I could even see a Show starring a variant of Kang and the 616 universe.

It's kinda confusing when Avengers Forever was already a thing, from Busiek. That was a time travel thing.

So Jason Aaron is still on Avengers huh?

At least Chip Zdarsky has an entire Daredevil/Kingpin event to himself.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - I like Jason Aaron’s indie stuff like Scalped but his marvel titles are definitely hit or miss. Indestructible Hulk way back when was mediocre at best, especially compared to the amazing immortal hulk run

Events, events, events, and events. Just inflating the currency even more, to the point where they mean nothing anymore. This just shows off some of the cluelessness of Marvel Comics. Look no further for proof of why manga is beating you like a drum in the west.

@TheStranger - Even though I agree with you (It hasnt been a good couple of years) I always find it strange and silly to compare comics sales to manga sales. At most, comic companies are either competing against other companies, or against their own previous sales.

@Elbarto63 - Marvel competes against itself. It just kneecapped the best writer and best seller. That's sooo Marvel.
TheStranger
TheStranger - 11/14/2021, 10:11 PM
@Elbarto63 - That's perhaps true. What I don't know about comic book marketing could fill the grand canyon. However, they're the same medium, that's why they're compared, and when you look at them side by side, manga is obliterating their sales in NA. It's not even a race. Manga is Usain Bolt and Marvel/DC are a fat-dude log rolling out of a burning donut shop.

I am SICK of crossover events. They destroyed the industry.

Most of these sound terrible especially if Feige has anything to do with any of the ideas behind this I'll definitely pass.

I had an idea very close to Devil's Reign years ago and thought it'd be funny if someone just killed Kingpin because of his tyrannical rule and make it a whodunnit. He'd mess up everyone's lives enough to give them a reason to kill him, even those who wouldn't.
What if that's how it ends lol
