Marvel Comics' GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Getting A Startling Redesign For New Series As "Grootfall" Approaches

Marvel Comics has released a first look at April's Guardians of the Galaxy #1, and the team - Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Nebula, and Mantis - are getting some a striking new redesign as "Grootfall" nears.

Right in time for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Marvel Comics will launch a new Guardians of the Galaxy ongoing comic book series this April.

The title is set to be written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, the superstar duo behind Steve Rogers' bold ongoing adventures in Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty. On art duties, we have Kev Walker, known for his acclaimed otherworldly work on Predator.

This new creative team will chart a course into dangerous new territory as Marvel's beloved team of intergalactic superheroes venture to new, never-before-seen planets, encounter brand-new alien species, and discover long-hidden galaxy-bending truths that will supposedly make us question everything we thought we knew about the cosmic side of Marvel.

The reason behind this daring journey into unknown? A new phenomenon known as "Grootfall," an overwhelmingly powerful threat that will force the Guardians on a new mission that will test their limits as a found family.

This storyline will not only push the team to their breaking point but will also drive them out to the furthest reaches of space where they’ll encounter strange worlds in desperate need of the Guardians. The core cast is Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Nebula, and Mantis, and they're all decked out in new costumes!

One year ago, the Guardians of the Galaxy were destroyed. Their optimistic future shattered by the betrayal of one of their own. Now they ride the space lanes of a lawless corner of the galaxy, trying to outrun their tragedy. Can they rediscover their heroism and humanity on the bleakest frontier? Can they forgive the failures of their past? Or will they fade into the dark, eternally unforgiven?

"Welcome to a whole new era for the Guardians of the Galaxy, riding like mad through an endless alien dust storm of sun-soaked tragedy, intense violence, and deeply dysfunctional heroes," Lanzing says, with Kelly adding, "Together, we're guiding the Guardians on a new trail - one that will make them look inwards, even as they face the threats over the next horizon. Grab your element gun, True Believers - it's time to go for a brand new ride."

Below, you can check out Marco Checchetto's cover, a "Grootfall" variant by Walker, and the startling new character designs for each member of the team.

Guardians of the Galaxy #1 arrives in comic book stores on April 12!

I like the redesigns, but I wish Al Ewing’s run had kept going. I liked his expanded roster and the status quo of making them more like “Space Avengers”, plus his Quill was easily the best he’s been since they started trying to make him like the MCU version.

My 13 year old self finds that new Gamora outfit very... stimulating. In fact so does my 23 year old self, 33 years old self, etc. I wonder how large of a dump truck full of cash Marvel would have to back up and empty on Zoe's front lawn to get her to put that get-up on for a GotG show of some kind. Don't care what it is. It could be a Special Presentation of her showing how to cook a Cornish game hen and apple fritters and I'd watch the hell out of that, as long as the apron doesn't get in the way (along with my 13 year old self, my 23 year old self, etc.)
