Marvel Comics Kills Off An Iconic Villain In AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #22's "Hunted" Finale

Today's issue of Amazing Spider-Man #22 brought the "Hunted" storyline to a close and it featured the death of one of the wall-crawler's most iconic bad guys. Find out how it all played out right here...

When Kraven the Hunter was resurrected during the "Grim Hunt" storyline a number of years ago, it was revealed that the only way he could die again would be at the hands of Spider-Man. Since then, he's done his best to goad the wall-crawler into ending his life so he can finally rest and the iconic villain finally got his wish in today's Amazing Spider-Man #22.

However, it wasn't Peter Parker who was responsible for bringing an end to his life.

After being bested by Spider-Man, Kraven realises that the hero will never kill him and instead decides to take mercy on those he's imprisoned by releasing them. While the curse says that only the Spider can kill Kraven, the villain figures out that by becoming the Spider again (both by donning his costume and being a good man like he is), he can effectively kill himself.

He does so by fooling his "son" (a clone) into brutally murdering him during a battle which allows the real Spider-Man to make his escape and return to Mary Jane Watson.

With that, Kraven the Hunter is dead again and it seems like that's it for him now.

However, his son is still around to take on the wall-crawler so the legacy of the character will at least live on in that respect. What did you guys think about the conclusion to the "Hunted" storyline?

I approve just because this terrible storyline is finally over. Why are they letting Nick Spencer stay on this book? Scott's run was controversial, but at least people were buying it.

@rabid -

Seriously, Nick Spencer’s run has been incredible so far, and the entire Hunted storyline was great.

Like, have we been reading the same comic?

@rabid - I'm loving Spencer's run. It has it's bumps but It's been mostly enjoyable. Especially happy with all the great work he did with Felicia. Especially after all that Queenpin nonsense. Though her character suffered in general from the post-OMD mindwipe. Thankfully, Spencer fixed ALL that.

@Nerdman3000 - I couldn't disagree more. I'm reading it as a completists, but its been a mess from the start. And this Hunted storyline killed what little momentum it built up. I'd say the only good thing right now is the Lizard getting some good character growth.

@rabid - I will have to agree to disagree.

...and I'm okay with that.

@rabid - I always try to respect people's opinions, but trust me, I'm having a lot of trouble respecting yours. After 10 years of Slott mistreating the character by making an effeminate Peter, losing his sense of responsibility, not being with MJ, making black cat into Kingping lite and it was so bad that it came to a point in which the red goblin arc (which was horrible) was praised because it was slightly above the crap he had us acostumed too. Nick Spencer's run is fun, has heart, has much less filler than Slott, respects is characters, understands Spider-Man and Nick clearly has a love for Spider-Man.

I still can't really wrap my head around how if you like Spidey, you dont like this run.
I suppose people can sometimes have a wrong opinion afterall😂

@AndrewHolland - Slott did a lot of things I loved and a lot that I hated, but at least he's a good writer. Everyone in his run grew in a logical progression and within character. Peter achieved things to his highest potential. We saw how Otto could develop without the burden of the arms controlling him. MJ became something powerful beyond a wife and hotbody. Anna was one of the best created characters of the decade. And we got to see the roots of the 2099 universe with Stone and Alchemax. Liz was fierce.
Spencer might love Spidey and he has some decent ideas, but damn if his writing isn't amateurish and out of character. It only took a few issues for him to devolve years of growth. And that duplicate Spidey story was the most preposterous Spider story ever written. He really doesn't have the chops for a series with so many characters and working parts. And the books sales went from sky high to down the drain. I have a feeling that editorial isn't going to let him finish his entire planned fun. Especially when Far From Home comes out, they're going to expect to move more product. The only thing that can save it is if they can get a good artist back on the book.

@rabid - I'm in the camp that loves Spencer's run... Hunted has been fantastic, I've thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly the spin off one shots and #21 and #22. And because Spencer is clearly a genius at foreshadowing, we have another story defining moment coming in a mere few issues.

That being said, I was also very keen on Slott's run. I think with him, a lot of people are quick to remember the bad and dismiss the good. I thought overall he was ace! And sidenote, loving his Iron Man run.

@rabid - Slott wrote Spider-Man as a kid with superpowers. All the best writers have written Spider-Man as a person who puts others before him and that [frick]s his life up. I think this is what it really boils up to, this is the reason I (and a whole load of people) didn't like Slotts run. Slott seemed more preoccupied with the team ups, the new tech and the new money than with the drama, heart and human connection associated with the character. Peter always had a biting wit, but out of the mask he was constantly worrying, be it how to pay his bills, if Mary Jane really wanted to marry him or if Gobby was gonna out him. This part of his character was lost in Slotts run. In its place? Unfunny humor. During this run Peter tured from a good responsible man into an annoying man baby. After ten years of character assasination I can't comprehend how you can say that characters in his comic grew within character with a straight face.

Superior was good, I'll give him that, great even. Ock redeemed himself Anna was great, ghost Peter actually sounded like Peter Parker... and then Peter came back. Back in the 80s, 90s... back before Slott Spidey was a respected hero by the superhero community. For some reason Slott decided that heroes should start treating him as if he was a joke. Oh, but at least Peter created his own company! He achieved his greatest potential! Only that It was Ock that created (in hid body sure) but it doesn't seem very responsible in his part to take over anothe man's work.

I find it hilariously funny that you consider Nick's writing amateurish when your boy's writing seemed to be copied from a gi joe 80s cartoon. Very infantile and very stale, just for kids with very little standards. Also I'm sorry, but fierce? Hotbody? No wonder you consider Slotts writing good, your post sounds like something out of tumblr. Don't worry about "saving the book" the book is (finally) in good hands.

TL;DR: I disagree with everything you just said.

@Feralwookiee - actually a lot don't realize when he did that he was gone for mad long lol , it was rare where a villain didn't come back for like a decade or more .

@knocturnalzen10 -

So...he'll be back just maybe after a long wait? 🤔

How does that change the fact that he's come back before and likely will come back again? You're just saying it may take longer than most villains but that's not the point bing made.

Don't worry, he'll be back as soon as he makes his debut in an MCU movie.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - They don't have to bring him back to life. He was killed by his clone. Basically it's a loophole. They just spruce the clone up and there you go. Not the first time they've pulled the clone trick(Hello Black Widow).

The only one allowed to come back a week later is Rick Jones.
