Over the last few years, writer Steve Orlando has breathed new life into Marvel's 2099 future. This July, he returns alongside a lineup of superstar artists to go where no 2099 story has gone before in the pages of Annihilation 2099

Together with a lineup of incredible artists including Nick Bradshaw, Ibraim Roberson, José Luis, Pete Woods, Ario Anindito, and Dale Eaglesham, Orlando will introduce a new cast of 2099 characters in a bold vision of the Galaxy-shattering Annihilation storyline.

Taking place after last year's Miguel O’Hara - Spider-Man 2099 series, Annihilation 2099 will continue the tradition of introducing fresh takes on classic Marvel icons. Releasing weekly throughout July, we'll meet Nova 2099, Starlord 2099, Red Hulk 2099, Silver Surfer 2099, and the return of Dracula 2099.

"2099 is back and it's going cosmic!" Orlando said in a press release today. "Annihilation 2099 has been the best kind of challenge - bringing even more cosmic into Marvel's iconic cyberpunk line, and keeping it all fresh, provocative, and surprising!"

Editor Mark Paniccia adds, "No pun intended, but Steve, Ibraim, Ario, Jose, Pete and Dale have knocked this 2099 epic out of orbit! Each issue is action packed with a unique vibe and tone. There’s horror, western, 50’s sci-fi, super hero and all cosmic! It’s hard to pick a favorite they’re all so good! And Pete Woods’ character designs are incredible. I hope they make action figures of them all soon!"

Here's what's on the way along with Bradshaw's covers for each issue.

Nova looking a little Judge Dredd-ish on that cover. I like it.

There's sooo so so much comic content. Even if you didn't own a TV, you today can get all your entertainment from these graphic pages. It's wonderous.

I’m sorry to say but comics are dead but I appreciate them trying.

@Order66 - that's funny because all these releases and content makes me want to get into comics again haha

@Order66 - if you look at marvel alone they just reset the ultimates universe and have about 6 lines going from their. They're finishing off the krakoa era of x men and continuing it through like 12 different books. That's not even to count the other stories they have going on or events. Also dc is just about to reboot their comic line again...trying to fix what new 52 attempted to do. I would say comics are very much making a comeback. And in a world where people are starving for good comic book adaptations I find myself running to comics more frequently to get a good and different story than what Disney/warner is giving us. Sorry for the essay...

Annihilation and Conquest still my favourite comic events. Marvel cosmic at its finest

@FireandBlood - same. Really hope they adapt Annihilation relatively soon. They could make it Captain Marvel 3 (like how Captain America 3 was Civil War), an Avengers movie in the next saga, or a Nova movie

@bkmeijer1 - Imagine a world where, instead of the Multiverse Saga, the next big Saga was Annihilation.

We would see this unfold on two fronts throughout phases 4-6.

On one side, we have the cosmic players, Captain Marvel, Silver Surfer, The New Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, Quasar, and Super Skrull all trying to halt the Annihilation Wave, led by Annihilus.

Each solo movie would tell a different story of these characters trying to hold the line at certain points in the universe. Some would be team up movies, some not. In some movies they would succeed, in others they wouldn't.

But the Annihilation Wave is slowly heading towards Earth throughout all the phases.

Back on Earth we have Doom as the antagonist for the Earth Heroes. Doom knows what's coming but he's holding the info close to his chest.

In the finale all the space-faring heroes fall back to earth to help the earthbound heroes against the Annihilation Wave.

Doom steals Galactus' powers and helps beat the Annihilation Wave before becoming the real big bad that the combined Earth and space heroes have to now fight.

This is a world I want to live in lol.

@CorndogBurglar - whatever the next big event is, I do hope it ends with Doom taking the power for himself and become the real big bad.

I'm kinda hoda hoping the next Saga ends with AvX, so I kinda wanna see Annihilation in Phase 7 already (followed by Korvac in 8).

Judge Nova looks sweet. Time travel or multiversal stuff is the only way to introduce Nova properly, after they made the Corps look like ineptc, dipshit best cops.
mountainman
mountainman - 4/17/2024, 4:54 PM
@PatientXero - It would be an an easy retcon. The Nova Corps held the power back from individual members and it was stored in Xandar. When the planet was destroyed by Thanos with all Nova’s present besides one, the total power of the Nova Core transfers to that lone person, named Richard Rider. Similar to but slightly different from what happened in Anihilation.

bkmeijer1 - 4/17/2024, 5:30 PM
@mountainman - I like that. Could even see that happening in the reported show.

Knowing the MCU though, they'll probably introduce Sam too. Could make it so Richard is rebuilding the Corps and Sam is in the first batch of fresh recruits. Mentor/mentee story could be fun.
mountainman
mountainman - 4/17/2024, 5:57 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Richard rebuilding the Nova core after the above mentioned scenario would be just fine. I’m not the biggest fan of Sam from the little I’ve read of him, but I am a sucker for a surrogate parent/child story.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 4/18/2024, 2:35 AM
@mountainman - I don't know much about him either. I probably know him best from the Ultimate Spider-Man show.

I do think the parent/child stories are a bit too abundant know, but a mentor/mentee stoey is similar enough I suppose.

@bkmeijer1 - It is an overused trope these days.

At Marvel Studios:

"sSo we have something for Nova-"

Feige: hell no.

""She-Hulk and Ironheart are not that-"

Feige: Do it.

Marvel Comics remixing old classic events and crossovers is so boring but I'm glad I no longer have the compulsion and the curiosity to know what will happen in the new rehashes.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 4/17/2024, 5:25 PM
@Cleander - I kinda agree. The movies remix stories all the time, but that's no problem. Guess it depends on the medium

"No pun intended, but Steve, Ibraim, Ario, Jose, Pete and Dale have knocked this 2099 epic out of orbit!"

Isn't the saying "out of the park"? Could be wrong because I'm not a native speaker, but I think that pun is fully intended.

Semantics aside though, Dracula 2099 sounds cool. Especially if it's in a cosmic event. A vampire shouldn't have no place in that, but I like it all the more because of it.

If Marvel was smart they could do something where you buy all five books for......
