Marvel Comics brought plenty of big announcements to New York Comic Con on Friday, including a very intriguing tease for a publishing initiative set to launch next June: "Day 1."
Showcasing what appears to be a random selection of covers, the teaser art was accompanied by: "Save the date... because no one is promised the future."
What does it mean? Well, theories range from a linewide relaunch with every title getting a new #1 to Marvel Comics finally undoing "One More Day" and reuniting Peter Parker with Mary Jane Watson. In other words, no one has any idea!
The countdown to Daredevil #700 has also begun. The series launched earlier this year as the record-breaking biggest debut issue in Daredevil history, and continues to be one of the industry’s top-selling titles.
Captivated readers have followed the mystery of Omen and his growing threat to both Daredevil and Matt Murdock, and have seen Matt's personal life take a turn as he adjusts to his new role as a professor at Empire State University. The stakes are about to get even higher as Phillips and series artist Lee Garbett lead the series into its milestone 700th issue next March.
The road begins with the debut of Latch this January in Daredevil #11, featuring guest artist Emilio Laiso. A dangerous new player in Hell's Kitchen, Latch is poised to turn Daredevil's world upside down.
The covers for Daredevil #11, along with a variant cover for #700 by David Mack, have been revealed today, teasing what's to come.
Finally, we have new variant covers for Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles. In 1977, the original Star Wars film reshaped pop culture for decades to come, being referenced in everything from music to film, including the pages of Marvel Comics.
With the Marvel Universe being the "World Outside Your Window," the Star Wars franchise firmly exists on Earth-616. But what could have been a narrative challenge quickly transformed into a one-of-a-kind crossover where the heroes of the Marvel Universe see the events of A New Hope unfold on Earth before their very eyes after a reality-shattering spell.
These covers were illustrated by Kaare Andrews, Rafael Albuquerque, Alex Ross, Ron Lim, Jerry Ordway, Jerome Opena, and Dan Jurgens. The crossover is long-overdue in the eyes of many fans, and these variants are a great hint at what's to come next year.
