Marvel Entertainment and Riot Games have teamed-up to launch a brand new series of comics focused on the adventures of colorful characters appearing in the PC MOBA megahit League of Legends. Ashe: Warmother will be the first LoL comics published by Marvel, telling the story of marksman Ashe as she learns about an unforgiving land by going on a dangerous quest that will change the Runeterra world.

Many fans of the Marvel Universe and comics share their interests and passion for storytelling with the gaming community,” said C.B. Cebulski, Editor-in-Chief of Marvel in a press release. “League of Legends is one of the most well-known games in the industry, and their unique world and extensive roster of rich characters and are a perfect fit for comics.” The first issue releases on December 19th.

Ashe: Warmother is written by Riot Games Odin Austin Shafer and illustrated by Nina Vakueva, who’s worked on Heavy Vinyl. A new issue will be released on digital platforms (including Marvel Digital Comics Shop), culminating in a physical graphic novel in May. Considering that the League of Legends roster currently features over 140 Champions, Marvel surely won't run out of characters anytime soon.

@dainaron - what a lame comment. You clearly aren’t even reading any of the comics. Go back to reading Harry Potter.

Weird. The game was pretty fun in design but the fact it was a game about team work played by a toxic fanbase who have no grasp on teamwork kind of wrecked it.

Also it's bizarre they got Marvel for this since their art style is primarily anime inspired. Why didn't they go to a manga based company?

Once the Fox deal is through I fully expect Disney to concentrate on buying into the gaming industry.

It's the biggest entertainment sector in the world, and yet Disney have not really bought into it yet.

However, they have been investing into gaming companies on the side (including someone to do with League of Legends I believe).

Seeing the outpouring of love for Spider-Man (and the ongoing love for Kingdom Hearts) and the hatred for Star Wars Battlefront, I think Disney have finally started to notice just how much impact the gaming sector has on the entire entertainment industry as a whole. Not to say that they were previously ignorant, but perhaps a little slow on the uptake (as they were with streaming).

Cool. Cool, cool, cool. The lore in League is really extensive and quite compelling which is weird for a game with no story mode but to explore that in comics sounds like a neat idea

So can we expect spider-man or iron man to become a playable character in the next update?
