An exciting new chapter in Marvel Comics' storied history with Planet of the Apes begins next February with Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four, the groundbreaking science fiction franchise's first-ever crossover with the Marvel Universe.

The four-issue series will be written by Josh Trujillo (What If...? Galactus) and illustrated by Andrea di Vito (Emma Frost: The White Queen).

Marvel first published Planet of the Apes stories with beloved comic adaptations of the original films. Now, that partnership continues with exciting new comic sagas set in different eras of the films, including last year's acclaimed Beware the Planet of the Apes series.

In this series, it's time to venture into uncharted territory with a series that bridges the world of Planet of the Apes with the Marvel mythos—and who better to lead the way than Marvel’s First Family. It's the crossover we never expected, and if you thought talking humans raised daring questions about simian society, just wait until you see the chaos unleashed on Ape City when superheroes arrive in this epic pop culture showdown.

Here's the official description for the first issue in this four-part series:

WORLDS COLLIDE!

Marvel’s First Family find themselves stranded on the Planet of the Apes! Witness history as the Fantastic Four cross paths for the very first time with Cornelius, Zira, Ursus – and of course Dr. Zaius! But they won’t be going alone! Familiar foes from the Marvel Universe have set their sights on Ape City, setting the stage for a battle royale that fans won’t soon forget!

"I grew up watching Planet of the Apes marathons on Saturday afternoons, so it's a huge thrill to write for these iconic characters!" Trujillo shared today. "Having Marvel's First Family butt heads with Cornelius, Zira, and Dr. Zaius is just too much fun, and I can't believe I'm the one who gets to tell this epic tale. It's a mash-up decades in the making, and I hope you come along for the ride!"

Di Vito added, "It sounds like a weird meeting at first, but then you realize that both these franchises were meant to meet sooner or later. Exploration has always been the Fantastic Four's main drive. Ending up on the Planet of the Apes is absolutely perfect for a classic FF adventure, set in the immortal tone created by Stan & Jack."

"I am honored to be the one to illustrate this 'first official meeting' between the Marvel Universe and Planet of the Apes," the artist concluded.

I love that it’s the classic Planet of the Apes. The cover art is incredible and I’m talking, especially about the recreations of the ape characters. Part of the reason that I love the original series so much was the incredible make up so seeing CGI apes loses some of the charm for me. I love those movies growing up.

@RolandD - same here. If they could just revisit that classic timeline with a straight Apes comic.

I’ve talked about this crossover since Marvel regained the planet of the apes rights and it’s such a great idea! My idea is Fantastic Four go up in space and on the same mission they get their powers they go through a black hole and arrive on Earth that is planet of the apes but ruled by Dr. Doom. Fantastic Four teams up with rebel humans and planet of the apes originals! If it’s just that simple I will be in heaven! It doesn’t have to be huge world ending stakes just apes and F4 beating the crap out of doom!
