Later this year, Marvel Comics will release a new five-part limited series telling the story of a new Secret Invasion. The previous story was a blockbuster event that saw the shape-shifting Skrulls attempt to conquer Earth, but this follow-up promises to put the spotlight on Nick Fury and Maria Hill.
"It's a sequel in that it takes place in the same Marvel Universe as the first one and everyone in the story remembers the first one happening, but it's more of a standalone story because they've all learned from that adventure and aren't interested in seeing it go the same way twice, where they almost lose the Earth to alien invaders," writer Ryan North previously told IGN.
"That said, there are definitely Avengers punching Avengers in this, so let's say it's the best of both worlds: an exciting story of intrigue and collapse, and cool fights with cool heroes."
The series is clearly meant to prepare fans for the Secret Invasion TV series that's coming to Disney+ (which also happens to be focusing on Fury and Hill). We're not expecting to see the show until next year, unfortunately, but Marvel Comics is set to transform its greatest superheroes into Skrulls on some awesome variant covers that will start finding their way into comic book stores this May.
Crafted by the industry’s leading artists, these stunning pieces showcase just how devious Marvel Universe’s greatest cosmic foes can be. Check each of them out below and stay tuned to CBM for the latest on this series, as well as the show that's coming to Disney+ from Marvel Studios.
