2021 marks ten years since Miles Morales debuted in the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man, and Marvel Comics has revealed that the young hero is getting a new costume.
In the pages of Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30 this September, an impressive list of writers and artists will assemble to mark the anniversary of the last surviving hero from the Ultimate Universe. They include co-creator Sara Pichelli, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse co-writer Phil Lord and producer Chris Miller, and the co-director of that movie's sequel, Kemp Powers.
This is an interesting new look for Miles and one that definitely makes us think of Kaine Parker's Scarlet Spider costume (which would make sense if Ben Reilly is indeed returning). This story is being written by Saladin Ahmed and series artist Carmen Carnero, but we have no details on what leads to the change.
Artist Chase Conley (who has worked on a number of Spider-Man animated TV shows) redesigned the costume, and it's certainly a departure from the hero's classic suit first introduced in 2011.
"Happy 10th anniversary, Miles Morales!" reads the issue's official description. "This is it, 10 years as Spider-Man and his future has never looked brighter. A who’s who of Miles Morales Spider-creators has been webbed together to make this the best anniversary special of all time!"
