Marvel Comics has announced that this April, X-Force will enter the "Destiny of X" era with the introduction of a shocking new enemy as, like the Danger Room before it, Cerebro gains sentience.

As long as mutants continue to thrive on Krakoa, X-Force is needed to protect the island nation from its most dangerous outside threats. In order to do so, this group of mutantkind’s most lethal heroes have to be willing to get their hands dirty and risk their lives in the most extreme and dangerous situations. They’ve made their share of mistakes, been killed and resurrected more times than they can count, and now, they’ll face a new foe that will strike at the heart of Krakoa’s dream.

In the wake of X Lives of Wolverine/X Deaths of Wolverine comes Cerebrax, and this arc kicks off with X-Force #27 as writer Ben Percy is joined by rising star artist Robert Gill. This story begins when Wolverine returns to Krakoa and the mind-melding threat of Cerebrax grips the island via a security flaw, but where does it come from, and what does it want with Forge?

"There has never been an easy time for X-Force, but the year ahead is going to be particularly chaotic and challenging...one of the Cerebro units [has] become sentient, and it's hunger for intelligence and power is quite literal," Percy teases. "Cerebrax is coming. You should also expect some dramatic shake-ups to the team roster and a major transformation for Kid Omega that we've been building toward for some time. Take cover, because one of my favourite villains in the 616 is showing up in a multi-issue story I've been wanting to write for years."

X-Force #27 goes on sale this April, and you can take a first look at Cerebrax below:

@KanchaCheena - yeah same. For some reason I thought they even already did once

@KanchaCheena - It didn't. This is just a rehash of the Danger Room being sentient and becoming a villain...

@CorndogBurglar - I also remember X-men fighting Cerebro in The hunt for proffesor X.

Kinda similar to when the Danger Room went rogue and became Danger.

But I still like the direction the Mutants are going in nowadays comics.

Very political, I hope we get some Krakoa love in the movies too, one day.

@UXASIS - I hope so too, just like with Forge. I can easily see them give Krakoa a different name though.

Even I, who is familiar with the Krakoa from the comics, confuse it with the city Krakow from Poland sometimes

Marvel Comics has done about all the derivatives it can do. Now they are turning character's props like Mjolnir and Cerebro into sentient beings. What's next, Cap's shield develops intelligence? Silver Surfer's board? The Hulk's pants?
