COMICS: Captain America Becomes Captain Hydra Thanks To A New Costume In SECRET EMPIRE #10

Marvel has announced today that Secret Empire is getting an extra issue this August and the cover for the comic book features a startling new look for Steve Rogers as he suits up as...Captain Hydra?

Secret Empire was originally solicited for nine issues, but as has so often become the case with Marvel's event comics, an extra instalment has now been added. The cover by Mark Brooks is particularly interesting as it featured a "Classified" logo of some sort which seemingly gives away what's to come in the series along with a shot of a triumphant Steve Rogers in a very, very different looking costume.

Yes, Captain America has now become Captain Hydra! Here's what Marvel SVP & Executive Editor, Tom Brevoort had to say about this extra instalment of Secret Empire and what we should expect here.

"[Writer] Nick [Spencer] has constructed each issue of SECRET EMPIRE so that it ends with a climactic twist or a big reveal or a shocking development, and issue #9 is no exception. So moving into the finale, with issue #10, the heroes across the Marvel Universe will be pushed to the breaking point as we race to the exhilarating climax we’ve been planning for months. Oh, and let me say again: we’re not going to use the Cosmic Cube to simply reverse everything away—the stakes matter, maybe more than they ever have before."

Are you looking forward to an extra issue of Secret Empire? How do you feel about Steve Rogers ditching the red, white, and blue for a nice new shade of green and gold? As always, sound off below.

They backpedaled so hard this past issue with "OH WOWEE THIS ISN'T THE REAL STEVE ROGERS, IT'S JUST A COPY OF HIM".

Just....stop, Marvel. I love you to death but this is getting ridiculous.

So Captain Hydra has been a copy, clone, time remnant or what ever. Like I said, just a gimmick.

Typical Marvel...

'Oh yes this is Steve Rogers, not a clone, alternate dimension version etc. etc.'

(End of Issue #2 Secret Empire)

Bearded Steve Rogers:

"I'm just trying to Get Home"

Marvel we will never believe a word you say again...like...ever...

We don't even know who that person claiming to be Steve Rogers is and you all think they're back pedalling? Based on one image in a story that isn't even 1/4 through? For all we know Hydra Cap is 616 Steve Rogers, there is zero evidence proving otherwise. Only speculation, again, based on one image.

Have some patience, jeez.

@MrBullseye -
I totaly get that.
But what was Spencer trying to imply with this?
It's obvious isn't it?
Even if he manages to explain that (which is not a hard thing to do honestly) that's still a low blow in my book, very cheap.
Something Marvel would do, to sell more comics, not a writer who just wants to tell his story.
It was Marvel who introduced that shock value moment in Axis with that shitty retcon, it wasn't Remender's idea.

@Doomsday8888 - Spencer uses twists and fakeouts all the time. There are so many possibilities. It could be a time displaced cap (look at his clothes, very ww2 era), it could be ultimate cap, it might not even be a physical Captain America but instead a look inside his psyche where the real Captain America is trying to emerge (the art style changes during this scene so it could be a possibility imo anyway). There's no way Spencer would do this story for this long only to have a cop out of him not being the real Steve. As a huge fan of this story I would be PISSED if they reveal that, it would completely kill the story.

@MrBullseye -
It could be anything, yes, and i agree, he better not use two different Steves only to justify Hydra Cap!
I don't think he will.
But he did/will imply that.
Right now, Spencer is in a shitty position damned if he did, and damned if he didn't.
To late to backpedal, he will get even more hate.
Let's stick with Hydra Cap, and yeah, ppl still shit on him for that, but who cares?
Let's see the final resul, and THEN we can judge everything.

So now, people are saying that the result of SECRET EMPIRE 2 is backpedaling? lol. Yeah, after almost 2 years of developing this story, they surely are getting cold feet now. lol, SMH. And now that's reveal that the heroic Cap is back, people are still complaining. I swear fanboys act like the biggest batch of ungrateful, entitled crybabiesb alotta times.

Yeaaah well....
I've always been supportive to...all this Hydra Cap storyline, but i REALLY did NOT like the last two twists...
Not one bit.
If one of those 2 Steve is really from the Ultimate earth then is SUCKS. >:(
If that was only a flashforward than it's a big OK! :)
Although that proves that Spencer tried to trick everyone, he did it for a shock value, and i really don't like these kinds of things.
I'll keep an open mind, but Spencer better be careful.

I like the cover. Looks it is powered a bit by an Iron Man arc reactor.

I like the new suit before this one actually, with the shield as well and how it detached into two weapons. It'd be cool if the real Cap donned it and fought with it against Captain Hydra.

Captain Hydra's left hand, it looks like he was holding a gun, someone said "Remove that gun". Artist didn't bother to make a new hand pose...

@Highball - Oh shit yeah. WTF is that about. No guns, yet you're allowed to see three massive knives coming out of Wolverine's hand LOL. I've never really understood unnecessary censorship...

So...this is a new take on the Captain America 117 when Red Skull uses the cosmic cube to switch bodies with Steve Rogers on Exile Island?

Instead, the cosmic cube created a duplicate evil version (essentially this story's version of Red Skull) that is more calm and calculating? How groundbreaking!
