By now, you've probably heard the unfortunate news that comic book legend Stan Lee has passed away. The Marvel Comics co-founder died Monday morning after being rushed from his home in Hollywood Hills to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

In memory of the comic book icon, a superhero reception and candlelight vigil will be held on Thursday, November 14 at the Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook. The event is being hosted by John C Tsunis, owner of the Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook and Three Village Community Activist, who will be joined by President of the Tri-State Stan Lee Fan Club Charlie Ziegler, Stony Brook community leaders, Stony Brook University students, and Marvel enthusiasts.

“Stan Lee was a member of the Long Island family and a major part of my childhood. I fondly remember reading his comic books and imagining Stan Lee’s creations. Today, this earth lost an icon, a legend, and millions of Americans and fans mourn his loss. He brought the superhero out in all of us,” said Charlie Ziegler, President, Tri-State Stan Lee Fan Club.

Although he was born in Manhattan, Lee spent much of his adult life with Joan residing in Long Island. On Thursday, the Stony Brook community will gather to honor the town's most famous resident.

Mourning fans, enthusiasts, and community members will light candles in honor of Lee, who died at age 95, as a Long Island Icon and the most famous member of the Stony Brook community.

Stan Lee was a pioneer in the comic book industry, co-founding Marvel Comics with Jack Kirby in 1961. He was responsible for the creation of many of the characters Marvel Studios has brought to life on the big screen via the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Spider-Man, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man, and The Avengers.  The hotel will be showing Lee's movies on all of the televisions in his honor.

Marvel fans will also gather to show off action figures, comic books, and other collectible items that are a result of Stan Lee's significant work. The event organizers encourage fans to also dress in the costumes of their favorite Marvel characters to celebrate his creations.

It would be nice if they showed in the movies that it is Stan that brings the foxverse and mcu together... like Doctor Strange runs across this character (Stan) that appears in all the MCU movies and then looks into his life with the time stone and in that view it shows he was also in the foxverse and it shows Stewart and Jackman, etc...

And poetically it is Stan that brings them all together.

At least Stan passed knowing the FF were coming home.
It would be a great honor to pay tribute to all the actors and characters that came before and outside the MCU that were tied to him... even if those same actors won't be reprising those roles in this MCU universe.
Show a true cinematic multiverse and let Stan be the guide!

Hopefully they do something in LA too, I was at the Adam West vigil and it was a surreal vibe.

RIP Stan the Man.

It's strange, when someone of that age is ailing, you know it's going to happen at some point. But when it does happen, it hits you all the same. For years I've been knowing it's around the corner, yet here we are. What a wonderful world he shared with us. My life is so much better due to the amazing stories he shared.

@Prime8 - For me it wasn't even the fact that Stan was 95, but it was the fact that he recently lost his wife. When you're that happily married for that long and your spouse dies a piece of you dies with them. Then it was just a matter of when.

But all things considered may God bless me enough to have a wife as good as Joan to live with forever.

RIP Stan, you are with her once again.

Also on a lighter note just because it's funny and it's Stan...

I'd love to be able to go down there for that. If they bury him or erect some kind of memorial, I'll certainly make a "pilgrimage" there someday.

There's so much i could write - most of which a lot of people have written already. All i can say is that - this guy brought us all together in something so simple but yet incredibly fantastic.
He created something that so many of us can relate to everyday. He devised the idea of being a hero, standing up for what you believe in regardless of if people tell you differently. To keep going.
He forged so many of our childhoods all the way through to adulthood. Even though his soul has passed..his work will live on forever. I'm just so happy he got to see his work portrayed beautifully on screen just as beautiful as it was on paper.

Stan... seriously thanks for everything.

You sir...truly were and always will be..The Man.

They should put a bust statue of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee together in all the remaining Marvel films. That, or paintings of both of them hanging on the walls somewhere. RIP Stan Lee.
