Goggins is probably best known for his role as Detective Shane Vendrell in The Shield tv show, but he has proven to be an excellent character actor in many film supporting roles. Deadline are reporting that he will be the next actor to join the already very impressive cast of Jon Favreu's upcoming comic adaptation.

No info on what character Goggins might be playing, but I assume it will be a cowboy..or, an alien. You will see him next in Nimrod Antal's Predators too.

Cowboys And Aliens also stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell and Noah Ringer. Its set to open in theaters on July 29, 2011. The movie was written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof.

Here's a synopsis..

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

I actually just finished watching The Shield for the first time earlier today! An excellent finale to an amazing TV show and Walter Goggins was one of the best parts of both.

This is great news and an even greater find! Nice work ROR! :)

This movie keeps on sounding cooler by the minute. I might actually have to check out the comic.

@Ror-You look extremely happy (high?) in your new avatar. :)

Not a fan of his at all. He's in the same league as Timothy Olyphant.

I like this guy, but Timothy Olyphant isn't that great.

Olyphant was so awesome in Deadwood that I forgave a few of his earlier bad performances(Hitman being the king of them!), he was also very good in The Crazies. Anyway, Goggins is great all round as far as I can see, can't really pick out any negatives.

Damn, I havn't seen CRAZIES yet? Is it worth buying on DVD/BR?! Is it out?

I dunno, they both have this... THING about 'em. This big ol'... THING that just doesn't sit right with me. They can both give decent performances but i dunno. The THING bothers me. They stick out like Megan Fox's thumbs. When i see them it just completely takes me out of the movie or show. It's like watching Leo's head get more and more bloated and raspberryish by the film. This... THING is there and it's not going away. Walton's been on my bad side since The Next Karate Kid LOL ;P Olyphant on the other hand was very good in Rockstar. I think the hair and mascara hid that... THING about him i dislike LOL.

That sounds like the "thing" I have against Adam Sandler, Mark Whalberg, Kate Beckinsale, Johhny Reece Myers..I could go on! haha, although I think that may just be that they're shite!

I really like olyphant. He was great in the girl next door. Good in the crazies too. This guy, not so sure about. I remember him from major league 3 back in training.

Ror- Could be. It's quite the unexplicable THING. It's like i can't fully put my finger on it. They bother me, lets just put it that way. Now Josh Hartnet i REALLY [frick]ing hate!!! LOL :P

Taboo- Olyphant completely lost me in "Gone in 60s" as well as "Die Hard 4". Physically he ain't ugly. But his presence is like... vacant.

superdog- THANK YOU!!!! Gawd it was eating at me from the inside i was wondering where else Walton got on my bad side! That third Major League film was IT! Wasn't his character named "downtown" or somethin'? [frick] i hated him LOL

Tea- Yeah, it was with Scott Bacula or however you write his last name. Kinda reminiscent of his Roughnecks movie which was a classic.

MatchesMalone- I actually enjoyed it a bit more than the second one. It was simple in concept and budget but if it wasn't for downtown there, it would have been really enjoyable. Burner from Pensacolla wings of gold played a balerina type fag that was pretty funny. There was the idiot catcher from Major League 2 that came back and was pretty funny. The Haysbert/japanese guy duo was cool to see again. Plus Jefferson from Married With Children was the bad guy. He was pretty hillarious in it too. But Scott's character was definitely the highlight. He really brought back the magic from Roughnecks on set.

haha, yeah I was gonna say, you watch Major League 3 what is there to expect!

Yeah The Crazies is surprisingly decent..I mean it follows a very well worn formula, but look past that and there is a lot to enjoy.

Ror@ How could you hate Marky Mark? Without him I wouldn't have know to "Feel it, feel it! Feel the vibration!"

peterparker420 - 6/22/2010, 12:21 PM
First I gotta say THE SHIELD was the best and always will be (in my eyes) the best cop show!

Goggins played "shane" perfectly you loved to hate him!

Also Goggins was AWESOME! in the new show JUSTIFIED!
Season 1 ended a couple weeks ago..and wow what and ending..

I'm sure JUSTIFIED won't be as popular as
"Son's of Anarchy" which is the perfect show to take The Shields place..or Rescue Me..but Justified with
Timothy Olyphant..AWESOME SHOW!!

He's probably the best thing going for Justified, though Olyphant is doing a fine job himself.

Check out The Wire, parker420.

Have only seen the first season of The Shield, but it was pretty fkn good. The Wire, however, is better. (IMH of course)

BillyBlack- I will check that out!..You have to keep watching (The Shield) the rest of the series..WOW.. It
just gets BETTER with each season! Season 4 with Glen Close..Could be the BEST season. (IMO)

I consider the Shield and The Wire the best scripted shows to grace television.Like peterparker420 said, they both get better with each season. And it's not like "keep watching, because it gets better".They both start out great, and just keep getting even more excellent.

I really like Goggins, as he plays the "redneck" type perfectly.Olyphant also plays the "lawman" type perfectly.Hell, he should be in the movie.

Shaman@ glad I could help. He was downtown and he sucked. The rest of the movie was good. What is roughnecks? Never heard of it. And definatley check out the crazies it's pretty good.
