Netflix Hopes To Make Marvel Shows Faster, But Don't Expect DAREDEVIL And JESSICA JONES Until 2018

Despite previously saying that we'd only be getting two Marvel shows a year on Netflix, company head Ted Sarandos talks about producing the shows at a quicker rate and offers an update on future seasons.

Netflix brought the first two episodes of Luke Cage to the Television Critics Association today, but when IGN caught up with chief content officer Ted Sarandos, they quizzed him on where things currently stand with the online streaming service's plans for their various upcoming Marvel properties.

"I doubt that we could produce at the quality that they produce at that speed," he said when asked if we're eventually going to see as many as five Marvel shows on Netflix every year. "But we’re gonna try to make them quicker so we can get less downtime between them." That's fair enough, but when will this increase in Marvel content begin? It won't be 2017, as Sarandos added that the company has, "Luke Cage upcoming and then Iron Fist and then Defenders, and then we'll start slotting the second and third seasons of the shows that are upcoming," but they, "haven’t gone beyond that yet."

For now, he said that, "the whole cast is called on for The Defenders, which changes the production schedule for the other shows." Based on a few other reports coming out of the TCAs, it sounds like the plan for 2018 will see at least Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher hit Netflix, but will the latter show up in The Defenders? Seemingly caught off guard, he said: "Uh... stay tuned." Thoughts?
