DC Studios Boss James Gunn Hits Back At Fan Who Says "Stop Putting Your Wife In Every DC Project"

After coming under fire from a fan on social media for casting his wife, Jennifer Holland, as Emilia Harcourt in The Suicide Squad, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn hits back about her subsequent appearances.

Nepotism is currently the talk of the town in Hollywood, and with James Gunn calling the shots at DC Studios, there are those who have decided to take aim at his wife, Jennifer Holland.

Things seem to be getting personal, but some backlash was to be expected, especiallyin today's day and age. Since taking charge of the DCU, Gunn has only enlisted DCEU actors he worked with on projects like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, all while ousting fan favourites such as Henry Cavill and Dwayne Johnson.

That's led to the perception Gunn is only bringing back "his" actors, perhaps explaining why one fan recently attempted to call the filmmaker out by Tweeting, "Stop putting your wife in every DC project."

To that, Gunn responded, "The only DC movie I’ve ever cast my wife in was [The Suicide Squad]. I had nothing to do with the casting of any other movie - anything else was shot a year or so ago while I was deep in Vol 3. But I know some of you are deeply in need of reasons to hate."

He's not wrong there, though Holland has racked up her fair share of DC credits since 2021. We've seen her play A.R.G.U.S. agent Emilia Harcourt in Peacemaker, Black Adam and, rumour has it, Shazam! Fury of the Gods

It's unclear whether we'll see Holland's Harcourt in the DCU, though she has been semi-confirmed for HBO Max's Waller

As of right now, Ben Affleck appears to have wiped his hands with the DC Universe, while Jason Momoa is expected to switch his Aquaman role for Lobo. Gunn hasn't committed to whether Gadot will return as Wonder Woman, but like Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher, we don't anticipate seeing her again after this year.
