It was recently confirmed that DC Entertainment's next animated feature would be an adaptation of Netherrealm Studios' best-selling Injustice: Gods Among Us video game, and we now have an official release date along with a first look at the Blu-ray cover art.

Injustice will arrive on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray and Digital on October 19.

The movie looks set to follow the premise of the game pretty closely, with the story taking place "on an alternate Earth in which the Joker has tricked Superman into killing Lois Lane, sending the hero on a rampage. This unhinged Superman decides to take control of Earth for its own good, leading Batman and his allies to attempt to stop him."

The artwork features a raging Man of Steel attacking Batman as Wonder Woman does her best to restrain him.

Inspired by Injustice: Gods Among Us, NetherRealm Studios’ popular video game, and the best-selling DC graphic novel based on the video game, Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One by Tom Taylor, the animated film Injustice finds an alternate world gone mad - where The Joker has duped Superman into killing Lois Lane, sending the Man of Steel on a deadly rampage. Unhinged, Superman decides to take control of the Earth for humanity’s own good. Determined to stop him, Batman creates a team of like-minded, freedom-fighting heroes. But when Super Heroes go to war, can the world survive?

This adaptation has Matt Peters (Justice League Dark) on board as director, with Ernie Altbacke (Batman: Hush) penning the story. You can check out a full rundown of the impressive voice cast below.

Injustice will feature: Justin Hartley as Superman, Anson Mount as Batman, Laura Bailey as Lois Lane and Rama Kushna, Zach Callison as Damian and Jimmy Olsen, Brian T. Delaney as Green Lantern, Brandon Michael Hall as Cyborg, Edwin Hodge as Mr. Terrific and Killer Croc, Oliver Hudson as Plastic Man, Gillian Jacobs as Harley Quinn, Yuri Lowenthal as Mirror Master, Flash and Shazam, Derek Phillips as Nightwing and Aquaman, Kevin Pollak as Joker and Jonathan Kent, Anika Noni Rose as Catwoman, Reid Scott as Green Arrow and Victor Zsasz, Faran Tahir as Ra’s al Ghul, Fred Tatasciore as Captain Atom, Janet Varney as Wonder Woman, and Andrew Morgado as Mirror Master Soldier.

Superman is my favorite character, and I’m not a big fan of evil versions of him. But this is an exception as the story is amazing, the games are badass, and I’ll take any Superman content I can get lol

@thelastson18 - Yeah I think we're all tired of evil Superman but Injustice is SO well done you kinda have to make an exception. Plus, its not like he's mind controlled or anything either. He's just pushed over the edge by the Joker.

And the fact that he has a bunch of other "heroes" on his side is pretty compelling too. The story flips so many hero / villain roles in such a great way.

@Himura - definitely agree. I think Superman & Lois has come the closest to giving us a hopeful modern day Superman. And I believe Cavill has it in him if given the right material

Obligatory comment on how I’m tired of seeing evil superman again and again. Atleast we have Superman & Lois but man, what I would give to see a live action Superman (and DCEU) based on the og DCAU.

@MeAreLegend - amen brother. OG DCAU Superman is THE best iteration of the character. Mix that with Reeves, and modernized graphics of MoS, you have yourself the quintessential Superman.

@MeAreLegend - Makes me wish they would have continued Brandon Routh’s arc and allowed him to evolve the character and give him someone to punch.

@Waddles - So dark.
I would have liked to have seen a father-son dynamic where they work together .. and definitely not to save Lois, that’s been done to death.

@thelastson18 - I 100% agree with you an that! Makes it even more frustrating to me, that they had the perfect blueprint for the DCEU but completely ignored, going with the weird mess we have now...

That’s a terrible cover. They usually have good ones for their releases.

Uhh, the premise of Injustice worked in a video game where you had to have some reason for Superman to go evil. But I don't think that it's such a good story idea in general. Even with that starting point, I don't think the events would've really gone like that in the long run.

Not sure if ill buy this one. Too much evil superman lately.

Would much rather have a World’s Finest movie or Man Of Tomorrow sequel in the new universe

Gotta love how most of these complainers of “evil Superman” never played the campaign and saw that one of the main heroes of the story was the mainstream universe good ol’ Boy Scout Superman… smdh

please find a different excuse to hate

@TheHummus - isnt that only for the first game, also not sure this is based on the first game. Pretty sure its based on the prequel comic

@TheHummus - [frick] off, the second game had no good superman. You play the game first.
Himura

@TheHummus - He's also not the only one who turns "evil"
It's basically DC's version of Civil War but with the multiverse mixed in.

I'm tired of evil Supes but DC animation is usually pretty good, so I'll give it a whirl.

I say usually, because I loved the Mortal Kombat Scorpion one, but the one from yesterday...well...SPOILERS

It started out good and stayed that way for about an hour, then took a turn into WTFville in the last act. It got so bad it barely held my attention.

Wait, so Wonder Woman isn't evil in this version of Injustice? That's an interesting change.

Maybe this will be the final installment of Zack Snyder’s Injustice League.

Does this cover mean Wonder Woman’s gonna actually be a real character in this story and not just a violent psychopath who supports authoritarianism because she wants some Kryptonian bone.

@BroskiTroski - do hope they really elaborate on her motivations and choices too in this. Did seem her whispering in Clark's ear really made him go full dictator

bkmeijer2

As great as the Injustice games and comics are, I do hope this tells a sonewhat original story.

Preferably that we get to see Superman's descent. Immediately have him be bad just feels like it couldn't bother me. Like with all evil Superman stories, they just don't make an impact when we don't spent time with the beacon of hope Superman.
