We're in the midst of a WGA strike which has no clear end in sight, and it's already been confirmed that Marvel Studios and pretty much every other major studio will be skipping this month's San Diego Comic-Con.
After all, it's hard to hype up future projects if you don't know for sure whether they'll be able to meet their planned release dates...or even have a completed script in time for when production is supposed to begin. Now, it's looking like DC Studios won't have a presence at the event.
As you can see below, James Gunn has confirmed he won't be at the show, though did hint at the newly created studio having a bigger presence in 2024.
This makes sense on a number of levels. While it's possible Warner Bros. still intends to host an Hall H panel, showcasing future DC Studios titles alongside upcoming DCEU projects such as Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom...that would be a very bad idea after The Flash.
DC Studios is also unlikely to actually have anything to share; aside from Superman: Legacy, none of its upcoming movies have completed screenplays and the best they could probably do is reveal some concept art and some early footage from Creature Commandos. With that in mind, there's really no point in appearing.
Studios spend millions on booking out Hall H for splashy presentations, so waiting until 2024 to hype up plans for the new DC is a smart move.
Still, it's a shame to see the event revert to its pandemic status as a show that's likely to pass most of us by instead of being one of the most exciting weekends of the year!
Are you still excited for Comic-Con?
DC Studios will not make a Hall H appearance at San Diego Comic Con this year. They’ll ‘probably’ be there next year.
